You know that feeling when you're trying to find something in your bag, but it's a tote bag. So you start digging through the countless obstacles to get to the thing.
You rummage for about two minutes, and you still can't find it, so you just have no option but to empty the bag entirely, and then all of a sudden the thing you're looking for is the first to fall out of the bag?
Yeah, it happens to me a lot, and it's annoying. Sometimes it's not even a tote bag, and yet I can't, for the life of me, find what I'm looking for. The other day, I got down from a bus, and it was time to pay, so I started searching for my money. I couldn't find.
I legit held up the bus and its passengers for a while—five minutes—before I found the little suckers beneath my handkerchief. I almost had a panic attack.
The encounter got me thinking. It was high time I got myself a mini purse to exclusively store my cash. And then a light bulb turned on. Why not crochet myself a money purse?
I had the materials needed, so I just had to dedicate a few hours a day to do it. And so by Wednesday last week, I began the process. Let's go through it together...
Materials Needed
- Any wool of your choice
- A crochet pin
- A pair of scissors
Procedure
Using your wool and finger, make a knot and pass your pin through it. Then you crochet some single chains; these will serve as the base of the purse, so the length will equal the width of the purse.
When you reach your desired length, you then slip your pin through the previous chain and make three double crochets in the one chain. After this, you then go to the next chain and make one double crochet.
Do a double crochet in each chain until you get to the end of the line. When at the end, you do three double crochets in the last chain and then continue the double crochets down the line.
At this point, the purse should have begun to take form and should resemble a canoe. When you get here, you can then continue all the way with a double crochet.
When I got to the point that I was ready to switch colours, I cut my wool, tied the end of it to the beginning of a new one, trimmed the end, and continued to crochet.
I made four double crochet lines with the pink wool and then switched back to purple, of which I did an additional three lines.
After this, I was content with the length of the purse, so it was time to do the cover. I then switched the technique to match that used when crocheting a muffler/scarf.
I started from the first end of the purse, twisted it to the other side, and then inserted my pin into the previous double crochet. I made a double crochet on it and down to the other end.
When I got to the end, I twisted the purse and repeated the process again until the cover was long enough.
When satisfied with the length of the cover, I cut the yarn at the end, tied a knot on it, and crocheted the tail into neighboring stitches so that it wasn't hanging out.
And like that, guys, I made my little money purse.
