GARDEN Journal - Veggie garden upgrades, new plants and need sowing!

in #hive-1406352 years ago

Good day everyone! Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa. Here's is another update on my Veggie garden! I have lots of new plants, filling in those new beds I prepared a week ago and now I have a mass germination effort going on!

In the picture above you can see me sitting down for a few minutes, just admiring the scene.

Let's go down the camera-roll!

Tomatoes are doing great! Compare that to them a week ago and they have grown so fast!

This is from last week's post here!

Right, now for some additions!

I bought a rosemary bush, the biggest I could find at the time! To be honest, my veggie garden will need another 6 of these if they are going to be completely self sufficient in the presance of @clairemobey! Hehehe! But once I have some additional rosemary plants, I will probably never need to buy that herb again!

I got a 6 pack of Sweet Basil, also going to need a lot of those.

Here are some of my Bell Pepper seedlings that have managed to survive.

Nasturtiums! Yes, I am fully aware that these are going to go everywhere... pruning will help, but I would not mind them going all over the place as they make a great protection against slugs and snails! They have soft leaves that the slugs eat instead of tomatoes and the like and they grow faster than they pests can eat them! This has been tried and tested by myself.

My watermelon seeding @lez-zaiya gave me is still going. Its been here for about a week. Such a slow grower but seems happy still. Ive cut out the bottom of this container and it can no root into the ground beneath.

More Bell Pepper seedlings I germinated myself.

A View of the garden so far. My first box with tomatoes, mint, spearmint and parsley. My two new growing areas in a tier with the Marigold standing gaurd and the footpaths either side.

Looking great!!

Another view of the same! I cannot wait to see what this looks like in a month!

I do not have a lot of time while working those 12-hour shifts on the ship... so sometimes I work at night under my emergency light.

Getting posts filled with compost/dirt mix and ready for more seedlings!

Getting seeds ready and labels so I can know what is busy coming up!

That's all for now! I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Cheers!

Amazing garden! Wait until your rosemary bush grows a bit and then take some hard wood cuttings. Remove some bark from the bottom of the branch, use some rooting hormone if you have it and shove it in the soil. It grows fast and soon you’ll have plenty of bushes for free 😁 Tried and tested by myself. I also sold excess of small plants cause I had too many!

I love nasturtiums too! Butterflies love laying eggs on them.

I really admire your commitment to work even in the darkness 😍

Thank you. That's great advice! I will need lots of Rosemary!

Once I have enough things planted in my garden, I would not mind being able to give away or sell plants. Lol

But I still have plenty of space to fill!

Good luck! Once it gets going you’ll be looking for more and more space, then a greenhouse and then a nursery 😂 Gardening is so addictive 🙈

I’m looking forward to seeing your updates 💙

Everything looks great in my eyes. Tomatoes and basil are looking very healthy to me. Working at night is not a bad thing. The temperature is cooler and when repotting or transplanting something, it is quite needed, if you want to give the plants a bit of rest, to recuperate till the heat is coming.

Thank you very much! Yeah the heat is on in Cape Town right now.

Every afternoon after work and every morning before work I am giving my plants a light water. Keep things moist.

So nice. 🥦🌶🍏🍅

The worst grocery store vegetable is tomato.

Absolutely tasteless.

Just continue! 👏

Yes! Homegrown tomato is full of flavour!

👍🍅

Gosh our garden is just spectacular! It's truly mind-boggling that even despite all these long awful hours you've been working, you're still managing to keep it flourishing!

Thank you! 😁

Nice! The herbs and veggies are looking great.
Anything you grow yourself always tastes so much better 😀
Wish I had known how big tomato plants get before I started growing mine. Should be interesting to see what happens there😅

You will see that it was no coincidence that I played the tomatoes with the trellis behind them!
