Hello hello needlework lovers✨
It is with utmost pleasure that I write this post today. Whenever I start a new crochet project that I would actually end up using, I get really excited.
Talking about using my crochet accessories, I happened to wear one of the scrunchies I made sometime back to college and everyone totally loved it. I was asked lots of questions by crocheters, aspiring crocheters and none crocheters. Questions like " Did you make it yourself? How long did it take you to make it? Where do you purchase your yarns." Of course, I had to answer all these questions with a smile on my face.
Once again, there is a need and my crocheting skill swoops in to save the day. I realised that I need an extra bag because I have two bags and one of my bags is really Cumbersome, leaving me at the mercy of the other bag. I thought, "why not make yourself a tote bag?"
This idea to make a tote bag for myself had been lurking for a while now but at the time, I didn't really see the need to make one. But now, I do.
For the tote bag, I chose to use granny squares. Any one who has been reading my crochet articles would know that I grew to love making granny squares. Some patterns are complex and the other patterns are as simple as they come but either way, granny squares are beautiful.
I saw this heart motif granny square on Pinterest and decided to make my own tote bag with the same pattern but a different colour. Choosing the right colour wasn't such a big deal because I want to make a bag that can go with any outfit I wear, hence, the generous use of black yarn.
For this project, I started by chaining four and making a slip stitch into the first stitch. Another approach could be making a magic circle. After making a circle, I chained three and went ahead to make twelve double crochet stitches into the circle I made. From there, I got a circle.
With the circle in position, I started making the heart pattern. I used treble crochet, double crochet and single crochet stitches, while paying heed to the apex of the heart.
After coming up with a heart, I proceeded to make the corners using quadruple crochet, treble crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, single crochet and slip stitches. It was a process that required so much precision . Any mistake and you would have to start from scratch. At first I wondered how possible it was to make four corners on a heart heart but there you have it.
I need to make eighteen granny squares in total for the tote bag and after which I would start the coupling and proper alignment. I'm really eager to see how this bag will turn out in the end. I wonder if it would be firm enough to carry my notes. Upon completion, I would share the end results with the beautiful community but as of now, it is still a work in progress.
What do you think it would look like? Do you like the colour combination or I should have gone with a more shouty colour considering the conditions?
