Hello DIY Community ✨
Have you ever done something that made you feel so proud of yourself? Something that made you question your creativity? In the past, I've done some things that made me feel really excited on their completion and I'm certain that the future holds many more of this joy. However, we're going to be dealing with the present today.
Saturdays are synonymous to 'cleanup' days in my part of the world. Especially for people who barely had time during the weekdays. Yesterday, while I was tidying up a part of the house, I noticed these boxes that littered one corner. On closer assessment, I realised that that corner was filled with lots of old phone packets.
Basically everyone in my family has this knack for keeping phone packs just in case something comes up and we need to use the warranty. I picked up each and every one of the phone packets and noticed that the oldest packet there dated as far back as fifteen years ago. Ha!
While contemplating on what to do with the "waste", an idea to recycle them came to mind. So, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my first craft made with old phone packs.
Materials Used
- Old phone pack
- A pair of scissors
- A cutter
- Glue
- Coarse file
- Ruler
- Pencil
Procedures
First off, I gathered all the materials I would be using for the craft. Every single thing that remained in the old phone pack was useful in one way or another.
I picked out the paper that shields the phone and began working with it. The paper measured 18.5 cm and so I divided it into four places; which gave me 4.6cm.
I marked 4.6cm on both ends and went ahead to draw vertical lines till the end. In the middle, I measured about 5cm as the mini divider. From there, I proceeded to cut out unwanted parts.
After cutting out the extraneous parts, I got what I wanted. To add more colour and unison to the craft, I cut out a small piece of orange colour paper and placed it at the center of my mini divider.
With that, I proceeded to mark lines on the phone pack using the measurement from the paper.
After marking out measurements, I proceeded to carve out the lines with the aid of a sharp cutter.
Once I was done carving, I smoothened the ages using a coarse file. The file did a little bit of justice to the rough ages.
After filing, I started coupling all my parts. I put in the paper and it fit perfectly. With that confirmation, I went ahead to glue all parts that needed to be glued.
The last addition was the black foamy hollow rectangle. This gave the craft its finishing touch and a fun fact is that it was also part of the phone pack.
After coupling, I dusted the packet with a damp cloth to bring out its colour and with that,I was done with my craft.
This was a really fun craft to make. I enjoyed each and every step of the craft creation. In the end, I added my pencils and viola, I was good to go. Taking another look at this pencil holder, I must say that I'm really impressed.
How about you? What do you think of the pencil holder made out of old phone packs? Would you like to have something of this sort on your reading table at home?
