Magic beans - on food from the market, DIY mini greenhouses, clean drinking water and more healthy stuff

in #hive-1418273 years ago

Today's post is somewhat different from what you're probably used of from me. It doesn't include any dinos, but shows another side of me that you might or might not be aware of...

I am listening to the latest podcast of Clare Galloway, @clareartista , titled 'How Do I Know What to Trust?' - that can be found here , while I am cooking 'favas' ( broadbeans ) for lunch. Meanwhile, I am also in the process of creating mini greenhouses, from plastic water bottles.

Yesterday morning, a neighbor and I made our way to one of the several weekly markets in the area, marveling about the autumn colored leaves on the trees along the road.

At the market, I slowly filled my backpack with an abundance of amazing produce
and yes, I also paid for them

as pictured below:

My catch included some magic beans. Here's a CLOSE UP:

Funny enough, my younger sister, who lives in The Netherlands, recently grew these magic beans in her garden.

I still like to call them magic beans ( and did so - in Portuguese - when I bought them from a Portuguese lady ). I think she liked that :<)

In fact, I talked to every person that I bought stuff from - that's how I roll! - and some of them liked the attention. I say 'some', as one old geezer who sold seeds ( you can see those, red, pea seeds at the mid right of the picture, touching two pumpkins ).

I asked the old man about planting those seeds and growing the pees but, apparently, I asked too many questions and he lacked the patience to actually try to explain all this to me. An old lady tried to help out but he just wanted me to pay and move on haha!

After the market, I had a similar issue with a Portuguese guy my age, at a coffee/ lunch place, when I asked for a specific kind of coffee, but that's an entirely different story ;<)

In the end I complimented him on his English - as he was treating me as a tourist, eventhough I speak decent Portugese - and gave him a little tip. This, eventually, seemed to change his opinion of me. I am a true diplomat.

I can be a handful at times but hey, I like to talk and sometimes I really know what I want, Libra or not, haha!

At the market, I also bought a big black barrel of the type that tends to be used to store olives, among other things.

After returning home, I moved the olives, that I had plucked days ago, over to that barrel. They have to be kept in there for another week or so, before I will start the pickling process.

In the end, the plan is to fill a dozen of jars with amazing azeitunas/ olivas and I will probably share the result in a future post ;<)

To get back to the food that I bought on the market...

I have to admit that I feel a little guilty about all the plastic bags. I usually bring my own non-plastic bags and will make up for this next time around.

Which brings me another project that I started today, namely:

The Construction of Mini Green Houses from Water Bottles

(Un)fortunately I have collected a lot of plastic water bottles, as of late, as I have been living in a house with (un)drinkable tap water, since December.

Having also been surrounded by many places ( particularly my twin sister's quinta ) with amazing natural drinking water, in the last 3 plus years, I reached a point where I can hardly stand the taste - and idea - of tap water and all the crap they put inside.

I have been wanting to get myself a drink water filter for quite some time now, but the one that I was looking for, has been sold out for half a year or so. Luckily I learnt, recently, that new stock will arrive in a week or so. Can't wait!

I have done nothing major with the water bottle greenhouses and I didn't take any pictures of my amateur set up, but I might do so in the near future.

Here's the post that inspired me, which I found via Ecosia, the greenest Search Engine that I've ever used:

Water Bottle Greenhouse

Also, this afternoon, I reached out to the aforementioned Clareartista in a DM, to ask whether she might want to coach me / help me out with long term health and energy issues that I just don't seem to get rid of by myself, no matter what I try.

I trust that she and I can come to some kind of exchange ( she helps me, I help her ) that is valuable to both of us :<)

The latter is something that I am turning toward more and more, not just because it feels good but also because I'm done with the old ( financial system and way of doing things ) and I have been moving toward a more intuitive and holistic approach for quite some time now.

Clare is the perfect person for this, in many ways, and I expect to learn a lot from her ( no pressure, Clare, haha! )

I am gonna end it here for today.

Much Love,

Vincent

P.S. Here's some possible future health posts that you can expect from my side:

  • Pickling Olives
  • Drinking clean water
  • Water Bottle Mini Greenhouse updates
  • Making Home Made Yoghurt ( I got myself an old French yoghurt machine

P.P.S. I also made nettle tea from hand picked burning nettles, today and almost had to save a little dog from drowning at a small waterfall.

P.P.P.S. I will probably get back to dino writing tomorrow ;<)

patience to actually try to explain all this to me. An old lady tried to help out but he just wanted me to pay and move on haha!

I think he lacked the patience because he doesn't want you to grow yours, you should keep going to the market to buy. If everyone grows their food then there'd be an economic crash somehow. But actually I love talking to people I buy things from as well. Trust me u enjoyed reading your post and those magic beans look really magical. Do have a great day. !PIZZA

Maybe but why, then, is he selling seeds? ;<)

If everyone grows their food then there'd be an economic crash somehow.

True that but it is happening already and unavoidable. I am so glad that I found the blockchain and crypto 4 and a half years ago. Growing my own food is the next step.

But actually I love talking to people I buy things from as well.

Great! I love talking to people, overall, that is, if we can go beyond small talk. I am not a small talk person ;<)

Thanks for dropping by and leaving this thoughtful comment!

P.S. Is the pizza that you're gifting me home made?

Maybe but why, then, is he selling seeds? ;<)

Haha! That's the first question that should have crossed his mind before his over reaction but maybe I can help by saying he wants you to cook them and not plant em.

True that but it is happening already and unavoidable

Yep! That's absolutely true.

Growing my own food is the next step.

Go girl! You got this. I love your style 🥰.

am not a small talk person ;<

Hahahaha! We could blend you know!

Is the pizza that you're gifting me home made

Lol! It's electronic made.

The electronic pizza part made me laugh! I guess any pizza out of a microwave is an electronic pizza but I hardly every used a microwave in my life.

Sending you a 'digital' hug!

🤗

At least the one out of the microwave must have been prepared by someone manually and can be eaten but this one is different. Lol.

Sending you a 'digital' hug!

Awwn! Digital or not, I really appreciate it. You've made my day already. Thanks and another!PIZZA for you.

This food looks so good! Its nice to read about the market and your experience there. Have you heard of the kangen ? https://www.shilohwater.com/products/alkaline-ionizer-systems/kangen-water-alkaline-system/

Yeah man, I have cooked some seriously nice meals with this, so far, although it doesn't come close to your cooking ;<)

I never heard of the Kangen. Sure sounds interesting. The system I had in mind was a Berkey water filter. I know a bunch of people here that use them and are pretty happy with their machines.

Wow look at you go! This is a whole new side of you. i read your olive post but I was logged on to another account so didn't want to drop a comment then. How are you preserving them - ie what method?

Eating nettles, pickling olives, planting magic beans - you'll be using the #homesteading tag before long!!! But as you know, hands in the earth and all of that. Loved your story update about the cold turkey - that actually made me cry. I've been crying over a lot of things lately.

Yes, this is me too. It's just that I haven't shared this side of me for quite some time.

I am still not sure how to preserve them but for now it's storing them in water for a while and refreshing that water every day ( or two ). Next step will be the actual pickling with salt and herbs.

It's my first try so I'm trill not sure what I'll add to the olives, probably something basic.

Loved your story update about the cold turkey - that actually made me cry. I've been crying over a lot of things lately.

Now I'm curious what ( part ) made you cry. Whether you sympathized with me ( the writer ), or with hypersensitivosaurus or cold turkey? :<)

I am still trying to find the crying button myself but perhaps I don't really have much reason to cry, these days.

xx

Aaaah, what a glorious post, dear @vincentnijman !! And I am truly honoured to be included in such a generous and spiritful way here! THANK you! :-D You help brighten my early morning with smiles!
I love your market produce - wow - that is a serious quality produce! - vegetable envy...

And yes, we are well matched as talkers ;-D I hope very much to be able to inspire you in health and happiness: the collective has a lot of work to do right now, eh? - I feel that we all have a part to play in the Real Health of the other, which means being overly generous with what we have, and being available to others wherever we can be... and eventually it 'pays us back'!

I'm going to do a post on our Living In Gift Community here on Hive soon, about manifesting a new stove - but first I have to get it from the car to the house - down some steep streets and steps. :-D

A presto, Clare

You help brighten my early morning with smiles!

Likewise, although it isn't early mornings for me. Waking early is usually a struggle for me that I one day hope to overcome.

I feel that we all have a part to play in the Real Health of the other, which means being overly generous with what we have, and being available to others wherever we can be... and eventually it 'pays us back'!

I wholeheartedly agree with this part. Time and ( personal ) attention are some of the most valuable gifts out there.
