I visited a charity shop and discovered an old curtain that would be perfect for a few home projects.
I needed a dense and highly absorbent floor mat, and this old curtain, made of thick cotton, seemed like the perfect material.
I wanted to have a go at using crochet, but I'm unsure if it will work.
So, I cut the material into a continuous strip, imitating a yarn. The cutting required a lot of patience, but I could not wait to finish and start my crocheting.
I used a massive 15mm crochet hook for the first time.
As usual with crochet, I started by securing the strip.
Then a chain and single crochet, although.
When I started the process, I thought it would be easier, but threading through and pulling took some of my energy; I didn't want it to be loose so I woven them a little tight.
But as I went through, I found an easier technique: feeding the crochet hook instead of hooking the material. It is easier on the wrist.
I had underestimated how much I needed, so I cut the lining into strips to add.
I was enjoying the process and was keen to see the result.
When I finally finished, I was thrilled with the mat.
It turned out dense, thick, and satisfyingly weighty.
Perfect as a bath mat.
Or floor mat. Great when you have just polished the floor.
Or even a doormat! To catch that water when it rains outside.
Hey, kitties, I did not make a cat mat. The kitties immediately sat on it!
Durable, functional, and handmade.
This mat brightened my day, and I hope it brightens yours, too!
Happy Needleworking Monday, everyone.
