Have you ever seen a luminous mandarin?
And do you know which mandarin will swim, and which one will drown?
Now my son and me know it all!
Mandarins are one of the main winter fruits in my place. They don't grow here, but still it's so;)
So in winter almost all people buy them, and we aren't an exception;)
So when I found experiments with mandarins, it was a cool way to try something new.
So experiment 1 - A SWIMMING MANDARIN
Do you know which mandarin will swim, and which one will drown?
I asked my boy, and he replied:
- A mandarin with a peel will drown because its weight is more.
Logics is clear, yeah?:)
And how surprised he was when it turned vice versa!
A mandarin with a peel can swim perfectly well!
If we take it off, it will drown at once!
Explanation: mandarin peel is full of air, and it lets a fruit swim well.
If we remove it, a mandarin is heavy, and it will drown.
So experiment 2 - A LUMINOUS MANDARIN
I fell in love with this experiment when I watched a video about it, so I decided to try it at once.
We have sparkles left from the New Year holiday, and it was just great for this experiment.
We need to take a mandarin and put a sparkle inside of it. Deep inside!
I tried to do it several times, and it works not always. Only when I put a sparkle really deep, it worked well.
So we burned the sparkle, and when the light went to the mandarin....it began to glow! Just for 2-3 sec but very bright and magical!
I wanted to know why it happened, but I didn't find any good explanation...
But it looks just great!
