So I made this little mod, that is a simple notch in a handle. Why?
I often cannot open blades with my fingernails.
The case is - I have no fingernails because I am, well, destroying them all the time while biting, DIYing, and genetically I'm unable to grow them properly. Since 1977.
Above ^ - Original Opinel 8" with no notch
So I came up with this simple idea to make a notch.
It has several advantages including a finer grip, making the knife more "personal" and of course, it is way easier to open a blade.
I cannot believe Opinel doesn't come up with this idea by themselves.
Maybe I should patented it?
Opinel knives
are a type of folding pocket knife that originated in France in the late 19th century. The Opinel knife was invented by Joseph Opinel, a French blacksmith, in 1890. The knife features a simple, yet effective design that has remained largely unchanged over the past century.
Opinel knives are known for their wooden handles and distinctive blade design, which features a curved cutting edge and a unique locking mechanism that uses a rotating collar to lock the blade in place. The blade is made of high-quality stainless steel, which is both durable and rust-resistant, or carbon steel (that I actually prefer) that is easier to sharpen and has it's own character.
Opinel knives are available in a variety of sizes and styles, from small pocket knives to larger outdoor and hunting knives. They are popular among hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts due to their simple, reliable design and lightweight construction.
In addition to their practical uses, Opinel knives have also become popular as collectibles and gifts due to their timeless design and rich history. The company has also expanded its product line to include other kitchen and outdoor tools, all of which are known for their high-quality materials and craftsmanship.
