Hello, Hivers! How’s March coming along? I hope we’ve been getting a lot of work done.
The last time I was here in the NeedleWorkMonday community, I was talking embroidery. I’m back to crochet again. And it’s another “What Did I Crochet?” episode!
I’m a bit disappointed with this project because I forgot to take process pictures. I just kept going till I finished it. It came out nice, so that kinda makes up for my disappointment. I’ll just simply try to see what I can do to explain.
One of the first crochet pieces I tried making when I started crocheting last year was a bra — the bikini kind. Like the project before it, it didn’t turn out well. The bottom of the cups curved despite how hard I tried to make them straight — it was frustrating! I finally finished it with the way it was, although I frogged it some time later. After that time, I haven’t tried doing a bra cup again. I’ve only been meaning to do it since I’ve gotten way better at crochet.
The reason the bottom of the bra cups came out curved that time was because I wasn’t crocheting the last stitch, so last week, I decided to crochet a bra, positive that I’d get it this time. Luckily, I didn’t need to buy yarn because I brought a couple of white ones home. They were to be used to complete a project I’m currently working on, but I didn’t mind. I used the two balls of yarn that I’d already started using.
I chose a 3mm hook. For my size, I needed to begin with a chain of twenty. Then, I single crocheted in the second chain from the hook and in each stitch till the end. At the end, I chained one and then did a single crochet in every stitch from the first stitch to the last. At that point, I found a stitch in the middle and did three single crochets in that stitch. I was now working vertically. Then, I crocheted down the left side. From then on, I’d crochet upwards, at the top where I’ve done three crochets in one stitch, I’d do three single crochets in the second stitch (the centre stitch), and then I’d crochet downwards, and do a repeat of the whole process. When I was okay with the number of rows I had done, I went round once with shell stitches. The last thing was to do a pattern of mesh stitch at the bottom for inserting the cord that will be tied at the back.
I repeated the same process for the second bra cup.
My bra cups ready, I proceeded to add straps at the top of the cups. I found two wooden maroon beads that I added to the beginning just after I inserted the yarn before I began crocheting the straps. So, I did that for the two bra cups. Lastly, I crocheted a cord that would be passed through the mesh stitch spaces for tying at the back. Voila, I had completed my bikini bra!
This project does not require a lot of time or a lot of yarn. I doubled the yarn that was why I even used up as much as I did. So I’d used about quarter of the balls before I began the project. At the end, I still had some left.
I was delighted that the bottom did not end up curving again. How does it look, guys?
