Hello Cycling Community,
This is my first post in the community and was made aware of it by @friendlymoose on Ecency Waves. I only just saw that I should do a MYBIKE post as an intro post and will try to include that a little in my post today.
I did have plans to maybe get a new bike this year for some maybe more offroad riding but in the end, I have postponed this to maybe next year. At the moment I am mostly riding for leisure in the late evening during the summer and running errands around the town.
With not getting a new bike, I thought I would do some upgrades instead. You can't beat playing around with your bike and a spanner. Some things I have bought are a new crankset, pedals and drink holder.
Sadly, I realised that I had bought the wrong tool to be able to remove the crankset and have now ordered the correct shimano tool to do it so couldn't put the new crank on today.
My bike is a Cube SL Road bike.
Some of the upgrades that I have done so far this season are to increase the hight of the handlebars and replace the standard cube handlegrips. With the increased hight it is much more enjoyable to ride. The new grips are with screws so stay firmly on, the cube standard ones kept slipping and it was driving me nuts.
Next up, I had a U lock that I prefer to use instead of my chain lock, so I added the U lock holder onto the bike in case I need to make a pit stop.
One other maintenance task that I did was that my rear disc brake was rubbing so I needed to recalibrate it and to do that I just loosened up the brake and tightened it up being sure that it wasn't touching again. I also pump up the tyres nice and high with the air pump.
Next up, I installed the drinks holder. It was just loosening a couple of screws and then tighten them with the holder on.
After, I replaced the standard Cube pedals. They are too small and not comfortable. This was easily enough to undo with a spanner.
That leaves just the crankset to replace which is pretty easy enough to do too. Once I get the tool I will do another post with that upgrade. I will be able to clean the hard to reach part of the frame when I do it, so I am looking forward to that.
Once I was finished, I took my bike out for a nice 25km ride and the larger pedals made a nice difference and it was much better to ride. I can't wait for the crankset to be replaced.
Thanks for reading.
