Hello Hive

Aren't leader bags getting expensive by the day we just have to improvise now. She was desperately in need of a bag to church. Something that can at least hold her bible and jotter but considering what the price of leader bag cost now at least $10 will have to be spent to purchase one. Although it is not like she cannot afford this but there are too many purchases to catch up with and a scale of preference was a necessity .
She can always buy a leader bag another day right? What if the seamstress can rock a fabric bag?. 😀

Oh no 😢 this isn't how she wished it looked. Maybe the white embroidery should have taking the upper spot and the denim closure be sewn below that.
But this was her first attempt at sewing a bag even though she is only familiar with sewing tote bags in the past.

Okay we have so many scrap fabrics

So she started with with the denim fabrics.
Measured the size of her jotter in height and length, worked with that only to realize a fabric crisis

The denim was to little to accomplish this project, hence seeking a combination was the only way out.

There was not a matching color fabrics in the house.
Let's settle for this since do not have much of a choice.
Then it was series of sewing on the machine

Yipeehoo I have something useful.

It could carry my books and some other ladies stuff.
But I never wanted it this big
Too dull of me, I must have missed some calculations and now I have a much bigger bag than I desire.

Never too worry we can always make another.

Wait a minute I forgot to sew in a handle 😭😭 and just like that I cannot rock this bag and see how it will look in my arms, or how do they carry this kinda bag if you happen to know?

Sort:

I love how this bag turned out -- the fabric is very beautiful too!!

Thanks dearie.

Preferably and for greater comfort it should have handles to hold it on the shoulder. We make the bags to go shopping, with recycled fabrics that are strong, I also use them to go out to run errands, but they all have handles.
The combination looks good, you can fit more than the bible in there. That's good because they might give you something as a gift and it fits in there.

Wow, am surprised that you also use something like this.
I will definitely sew in a handle and see how I will feel about going out in this.

And a much stronger fabric I might have to purchase for a next project.

Thanks for the advice.

Greetings.

😀😀😀😂😆🤓😄

This is such a lovely work and you definitely saved some money on this one. I loved the design.

What a great job!

If you're interested, this is a link to my mum's vintage patterns and fabric from the 1950s/60's/70's/80's that I'm selling on ebay.

Now, according to this list here from Australia post, I can't send any fabric to you, but it looks like I can send some patterns and so if there are any you would like, I would love to gift them to you- IF you would like them.

I need some clarity here, did your mum do the designs herself and the patterns for those vintage fabrics. I have always known that we have designers that come up with what print fabrics manufacturers print into different fabrics.
I saw that vintage fabric with swarm and all of these lovely fabric.

Plus have types this ever since and didn't know that the reply was not posted. Had to come back and check why I wasn't getting response only to note this

No no, mum was a seamstress- sort of- but not by trade, just because in the 1950's when she was a teenager, they were quite poor so they have to make their own clothes and the patterns and fabric she bought to make clothes BUT then she got married and had 3 kids and that was it- no more sewing nice clothes for herself, just repairs for all of us....🤣..

Haha... That's nice.
Am happy to hear that.
And those patterns are still intact.
You did well to have kept them and now we could make use of them.

I will really wish to receive the patterns but re they e-books (they will be much easier to be received here)

The fabrics are really nice and you know just how well I could have utilized them Well they cant get here😀.

Mum did pretty well for herself.
And taking care of you plus all the sewing and repairs she must have done for you.

but re they e-books (they will be much easier to be received here)

I'm not sure what you mean? these are tissue paper cutouts of the clothes- the arms/legs/etc and the instructions written on another piece of paper...like this...

The bag is beautiful thanks for sharing dear

Awwn! So nice, you can sew in an handle later you know, I love the way it's big, it will contain more than the books and jotter and how the upper part turned out to be is cool, the paper bag effect really makes sense. Welldone dear

Thanks dearie, am glad that you like my bag.

Yes, I do. You are welcome Sis
