¡Que gusto saludarlos, amigos!
What a pleasure to greet you, friends!
Today I bring you a new crochet project, this is a cute design that I crocheted to cover two glass jars. In the pantries of Venezuelans it is very common to use recycled jars to store condiments and spices. It is very useful that these containers are not only useful but also look beautiful, we just have to play a little with our imagination to achieve a practical and functional decorated jars.
They are utilitarian and unique pieces because they are made with our hands and creativity, this gives them a personal value that fills us with pride. Here I will show you how to decorate these "Spice jars".
- 2 frascos de vidrio
- Hilos para tejer verde y gris
- 2 bandas elásticas
- Flores pequeñas
- Silicón
- Tijera
- 2 glass jars
- Green and gray knitting yarns
- 2 elastic bands
- Small flowers
- Silicone
- Scissors
And without thinking twice we start the 1st and 2nd round of knitting: with green yarn, I make a magic ring in which I raised 12 high stitches and closed with slipped stitch. In the 2nd round I worked an increase of high stitches until I reached 24 high stitches.
3rd and 4th loops: I alternated 2 high sts in one chain and a high sts in the next chain until I had 36 high sts. The fourth round I worked a sequence of low sts.
5th row: To execute this round we must check that the diameter of the fabric is equal to the base of the jar. I continued knitting low stitches, inserting the crochet hook only on the inside edge of the chain.
Row 6: I started by knitting 3 chains (replacing a single crochet), then 2 chains and a single separating chain to join a single crochet, continued with 2 chains and a single crochet with a single separating chain.
7th and 8th rows: I started with Cross Stitch, for which I picked up 5 chains, slipped the crochet hook with double loop and inserted it in the next high stitch, then picked up the double loop and inserted the needle in the previous space. Immediately follow with double crochet in the next high stitch and repeat this sequence. In V. 8°; I knotted the grey yarn and worked arches of 8 chains leaving a free space between each low stitch.
9°- 15° rows: The following rows are arcs of 7 chains. In row 11 I skipped a bow to place the name tag there. In the 14th row I knit 6 chains to reduce the weave. In the last loop I worked 3 chains and a low stitch in the center of each arch, we closed by cutting the yarn and knotting very well with the fabric dressing the container (there it will remain permanently and well adjusted to the bottle).
Later, using silicone, I glued some iridescent green flowers on the upper rim of the bottles (these flowers were initially from the draught of a blazer, which had been damaged).
To decorate the lids I knitted two flowers (one flower for each lid), using green yarn and a crochet hook No. 6.00 mm. I decided to place an elastic band attached to the fabric to remove it easily when I need to wash it and it is very easy and practical for the daily use of closing and opening the container.
How did I knit the flowers?.
1st and 2nd Rounds: The knitting starts with a loop of 10 chains and then I went over with single crochet. In the second round I picked up 10 chains and closed them with a slipped stitch at the beginning, skipped a chain and repeated the sequence until I had 9 bows.
Round 3 and 4: I went through each bow, going up with 5 low P., 2 high P. and 1 double high P. and then going down I worked 2 high P. and 5 low P., closing with slipped P.. In the fourth round I worked arches of 7 chains joined with low P. over the double high P. of the third round.
5th and 6th Rounds: I performed this sequence in each chain of the bow; 1 low st, 2 high st, 1 double high st (when starting this stitch I simultaneously interlocked and knotted the elastic in one bow and in the next bow without elastic) and then 2 high st and 1 low st closing with slipped st. Repeating in each bow. The sixth and last row consists of knitting 3 chains and join them with a low stitch in the next chain and at the apex work the same but with a picot stitch. Finally we knot and lose the strand between the knitting.
I was very happy with the decoration of these Cinnamon and Oregano storage jars and the combination of green and gray; I think it looks very attractive. I hope you are encouraged to make them using containers that we can easily reuse. I recommend you to recycle to preserve our environment.
