Started back working on the house.... Update 2 / DIY

in #hive-1745782 years ago

Its been really hot early summer temperatures hitting close to 40 Celsius. Last week was a bit easier so I decided to kick it off again.

Before the summer we basically just dug a hole.

The hole was dug pretty badly even though I had the stakes placed by the surveyor. The excavator had to come in again and it took 2 months for me to get him to come back in to finish the job..

So he expanded the hole, built a ramp, dug the enterance into the basement and put down the base for the foundation. (We call it tampon)
The surveyor placed new stakes on the floor again.
I started tying up the rebar for the foundation. The prices of rebar went through the roof due to the war Russia started. I bought almost exactly 3 tons of rebar for the foundation and wall tieins. It cost me 2.5x what I would pay before all this nonsense few years ago.

Here you can see my makeshift desk and the starting phase of a new cage. Trying to keep it as straight as possible.

This is the final product. I need 8 of these at 6 meters lenght for all sides. Took a bit till I got the hang of tying but I think i got the hang of it right now. This type of work takes most of the time and I really didnt want to pay anyone to do it when I can do it myself.
My hope is that we will pour the foundation in about 2 weeks time. I need a few people for that and its really hard to find people when everyone of any worth, thats younger is off to Germany.

I went with Q283 rebar net, double zoned on a 35cm concrete thickness. A cheaper option than the Q335 we intended to use before. The foundation will be a floating slab foundation which I considered a better option than the striped foundation.
Sure, you use a bit less concrete but the hassle is bigger and id say its a traditional option in the area.

Sort:

To build a house, its foundation must be strong.

It's difficult when you can't trust workers to do a decent job, but it is finally done, so you can carry on with the project.

We have a couple of communities that this topic would fit better in, like Build-It or Hive DIY. OCD is for topics that don't fit in any other community and should be used when you don't find a niche community for your post.

I generally just used OCD for random posts that arent related to Hive since im seeing posts about sports, investments, travel, pets in the OCD feed. All those topics have their own communities.

But if its a rule, not a problem.

If there's a community for the topic, then it's better to post there. Thanks for understanding and good luck with building :)

I didn't know you know how to handle heavy equipment.

Thats not me in the excavator. I do know how to do some base level construction stuff.

More than meets the eye.

Excellent! Tying the wires to the rebar is a monotonous task! What are you using as a damp proof course below the slab?

Probably nylon but ill see. Might do the "carpet" as I call it. :)
Its a more expensive option but is probably worth it.

definition of basement changes with how hard the ground you dig it on is :D

Exactly. Lol. We stopped when we hit hard and lifted the area around. No need to dig in the rock.

do you call it the Hive House ? I'll call mine the shenanigans shack :P ( in like 1 million years when crypto will make me rich )

Im paying for it entirely from my crypto profits. Might as well call it that. Lol

also the Crypto Crib sounds very gansta :P

Very impressive. Hope all that construction work doesn't hurt your back old man.

Not that old. 😜
