Blessed day to all my Hive friends, especially to my fellow NeedleWorkMonday crafters, I hope you are having a great week.
As I have told you in previous posts, I am as much a fan of granny squares as I am of sunflowers, which is why this time I am so excited to share with you a project that fuses two elements that I love so much.
I have always liked sunflowers, they are my favorite flowers and I love to admire them and take pictures of them; I have also made some woven sunflowers with different patterns and with different utilities. This time I worked with a sunflower pattern framed by a granny square. I had wanted to knit these sunflowers for a long time, but I had not been able to get the intense yellow color so characteristic of sunflowers. A few days ago I found an old rug that I had knitted with a yarn in this tone, so I didn't think much about it and decided to unknit it to be able to carry out my long-awaited project.
The pattern is quite simple, to tell the truth, you can get it on pinterest and youtube. The first row is made with stockinette stitch, the second row with puff stitch and the third with rice stitch. After you have the flower, start forming the square around it; I did it with green yarn to simulate the sunflower leaves. Then continue knitting according to the basic granny pattern.
With the amount of yellow yarn I had, I was able to knit 4 small sunflowers, which I used to make some cute little pot holders. I have made granny knitted pot hoders before; however, this is the first time I have made them with sunflowers in the center.
To make the pot holder you must knit two granny squares of the same size and then join them together and close them with two rows of single crochet. This time I made one side of the pot holder with the sunflower and the other side I knitted as a basic granny square in one color.
My plan is to make 2 pairs of sunflower pot holders, one pair, of course, will be for my kitchen and the other pair is a gift for one of my sisters who also loves sunflowers. I really enjoyed knitting this project, I hope soon to find more yellow yarn to continue knitting sunflowers. I hope you liked my project this week. Thanks for reading, greetings and many blessings.
