(Edited on Photoroom App)
When I was in grade school, I remember my mom used to do most of my projects. Especially when I don't know how to do it. But I always make sure that I am present every time she does my projects as I want to know the whole process to learn. I remember she made a small bed out of small bamboo sticks and painted it in blue color. She also taught me to sew a rug made from leftover fabrics as my recycling project. I was the one who cut the fabrics into small pieces. She showed me how to sew it first and eventually I was the one who finishes it.
Now that my eldest son (@gamerboy2022) is in grade 4, I also helped him with his projects. Last Monday, he announced that his teacher told them to pass a recycling project to be passed within the week. Since he only has until Wednesday (today), (because they have no class on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Lent season), I decided to recycle a bottle of ketchup to be made as a flower vase coated with crochet. So yesterday morning, while he was in school, I made his projects alone.
By the way, @gamerboy2022 cannot share this kind of post or any blog as our computer
MATERIALS
I already cleaned the bottle, take off the sticker label, and washed it with water. I also used 5ply milk cotton in 3 different colors, a 3mm crochet hook, and a cutter.
PROCEDURE
First, I made a 2-layered flat doily for the bottom of our bottle, increased a little on the 3rd layer, and the 4th-5th layer, made 1dc in every stitch. I used the brown-colored yarn here.
Since I planned on making potted tulips designed on the flower vase cover, on the 6th layer, I used the color green yarn to make a "V" stitch that will look like a small vase or pot. Next layer (7th), I used the peach-colored yarn and began making the tulip by using the 5DC popcorn stitch.
8th-10th layer, again I used the brown colored yarn making DC. And repeat the *potted tulips" on the 11th-12th layer.
13th-15th layer - I crochet again the DC, but this time, with the bottle inside as I will be decreasing the stitches to fit the decreasing shape of the bottle.
16th-17th layer - I decided to make one more row for "potted tulips".
18th-20th layer - I also decrease the stitches here using DC and finally on the 21st layer, made a single crochet in every stitch as edging.
And voila! My version of a flower vase from a recycled bottle of ketchup with crochet as a cover or design.
In this picture, I temporarily put some crocheted tulip flowers that I made also, for picture taking. But in reality, I just let my son put only 1 crochet tulip and 1 lavender made of plastic. He passed his projects yesterday and received a praise from his teacher.
Hope you like this tutorial and may it gave you an idea how to decorate your recycled bottles.
Thank you and God bless you all.😘
