Greetings friends. The other day when I was out shopping during the night, I stopped for a while to look at the moon and how beautiful it was. It was in its crescent phase so I thought it was a very pretty moon.

With this in mind, an idea to make a small keychain inspired by this, the starry sky and the moon, was floating around in my mind.

Saludos amigos. El otro día cuando salí de compras durante la noche, me detuve un rato a observar la luna y lo bella que era. Estaba en su fase creciente así que me pareció una luna muy linda.

Con esto en mente, estuvo rondando en mi mente una idea para hacer un pequeño llavero inspirado en esto, en el cielo estrellado y la luna.

Step by step

The materials I used for this keychain were as follows: Flexible dough, paints, costume jewelry pins, keychain rings and chains. I also used tools such as tweezers, molding embossers, pins, cutters and blades.

Paso a paso

Los materiales que utilicé para este llavero fueron los siguientes: Masa flexible, pinturas, alfileres de bisutería, argollas y cadenas para llavero. También usé herramientas como pinzas, repujadores para moldear, alfileres, cutter y hojillas.

Although the cover image may confuse you a little, because it looks like two keychains, the truth is that it is a single keychain with two faces. It is a single crescent moon shaped keychain, which I made with a different design on each side. The base shape I used for the keychain is the one you see below.

Aunque la imagen de portada les puede confundir un poco, pues parece que son dos llaveros, la verdad es que es un solo llavero de dos caras. Es un único llavero con forma de luna creciente, el cual hice con un diseño distinto en cada cara. La forma base que utilicé para el llavero es la que ven acá abajo.

For decoration, I made small shapes in flexible dough, such as a few small spheres, a larger one and a couple of stars the same size as the large sphere.

Para decoración, hice pequeñas formas en masa flexible, como unas cuantas esferas pequeñas, una mas grande y un par de estrellas del mismo tamaño que la esfera grande.

While the material was still wet, I glued all these details on the first side of this keychain, I distributed them along this moon so that there would be details all along that side of the keychain.

Mientras el material aún estaba húmedo, pegué todos estos detalles en la primera cara de este llavero, los distribuí a lo largo de esta luna para que hubiesen detalles en toda esa cara del llavero.

On the other hand, on the side of the moon where I had to place the moon, I made craters of different sizes along the other side of the keychain and even smaller holes to create this moon-like appearance.

As there are two sides, I painted each one in totally opposite colors, the moon side in white, the sky color, black.

Por otra parte, en la cara de la luna donde debía colocar la luna, hice cráteres de diferentes tamaños a lo largo de la otra cara del llavero y agujeritos aún más pequeños para crear este aspecto parecido al de la luna.

Como son dos cara, cada una la pinté de colores totalmente opuestos, la cara de la luna de color blanco, el color del cielo, negro.

For the face of the moon I started by applying black color in brush strokes, to darken a little the white color I had, then I applied grayscales to create relief. Finally I applied more black using the drybrush paint to create this shadow in the parts where there is relief, this creates depth to a surface that, by default, is not at all textured.

Para la cara de la luna comencé aplicando color negro a pinceladas, para oscurecer un poco el color blanco que tenía, luego apliqué escalas de grises para crear relieve. Finalmente apliqué más negro usando la pintura del pintado en seco para crear esta sombra en las partes donde hay relieve, esto crea profundidad a una superficie que, por defecto, no es del todo con textura.

For the sky I used two more colors, gold and silver. In silver color I painted the small dots that I placed on that side of the starry sky; now, for the two stars and the big sphere I painted with gold color.

Finally for this face I splashed with the same brush a few tiny drops of gold paint.

Para el cielo usé dos colores más, el dorado y plateado. De color plateado pinté los pequeños puntos que coloqué en esa cara del cielo estrellado; ahora bien, para las dos estrellas y la esfera grande pinté con color dorado.

Por último para esta cara salpiqué con el mismo pincel unas gotas minúsculas de pintura dorada.

The last thing I did was to put the ring in place along with the chains and key rings.

Ya lo último que hice fue colocar la argolla en su lugar junto a las cadenas y argollas de llavero.
