Sunrise, Aim, Macro Rail, Wifi, Greenhouse Plastic, Antenna Mast, Cable, Kraken Surprise - Thursday

in #hive-114308last year

Yesterday morning I looked out the window to see the red morning sunrise which normally means there is weather inbound. The doppler had showed a nice line of weather heading our way but over the next couple hours nothing fell from the sky. It didn't hurt my feelings too much as I'm glad we have dry weather for a bit.

After getting the boys to school and posts done I threw for a little while. Once I get warmed up I'm getting the better feel for the weight and am starting to drop them in right above another. I only spend short sessions throwing so as not to work my arm and shoulder too much.

I got the house plants all watered which I am going to start dropping balls of snow into the pots to act as slower waterings, as the snow melts it will soak in slower than watering from a can.

It was a bit before noon when my packages delivered. My macro rail is super slick. I got my camera mounted to it and after a short time had it all figured out. It has set screws for everything and once I loosened the one the worm drive was nice and smooth and I found that if I set it all the way forward and focus to the tip top of the frame by the time I move it to the farthest back the focus is at the very bottom of the frame. I am going to have a massive amount of shots I can get now for stacking.

It took a bit to get the wifi extender setup but once I did I got it installed in the studio and checked the signal which was amazing now. @stryeyz won't have any issues with it dropping now.

After picking the boys up from school I went out to work on the greenhouse and prep it for the new plastic. I had to shovel out the snow along the base to get to the screws on the furring holding the plastic down.

Soon I had the plastic freed all around.

I began to pull the plastic off but then realized I had to leave it up. The south side is what is keeping the birds out of the greenhouse since I have the garden fence open for winter. I just pulled the plastic a bit to get it started and left it. It will be a quick minute to pull it off today.

The snow had melted enough on the roof that I could get to the antenna mast. I had lowered it in case I was able to mount the Starlink but it is too heavy for my mast. The cb antenna has not been used since I got my ham setup so I took the time to remove it and its wire. That meant a bit of fiddling but I got the antenna removed and the mast back in the air.

With the new ethernet switch in the house I needed to make a cable to go from the switch to @stryeyz couch so she can have a hard line for her computer and doing work related stuff that goes through fits if there is any lag. The cable tester is a VERY handy tool to have to ensure my ends are installed correctly.

An afternoon session and I got SOOOO close to three triple 19. Just outside the wire.

Well, smack my ass and call it Betsy, the Kraken actually did something right last night. They played at home against Chicago and quickly racked up points. We went out to soak after the first period while they were ahead 3-0.

While soaking J came out to day goodnight and said that they were up 5-1.

I was out of the tub in time to watch the third period where they ended up winning 7-1. Local Spokane native Kyler Yamamoto got a pair of goals and almost got a hat trick. Only 3 Washington born NHL players have scored hat tricks in NHL history and he was nearly the fourth.

I managed a page on my story before bed and am finding myself more able to write then than in the mornings like I was...

Today I get the plastic for the greenhouse whenever UPS delivers it (I'm hoping bright and early) and want to get it installed, the boys have their last day of school before winter break, day time temps are going to be around 40F for the next week at least so I will be able to get more done outside, the tool shed is in dire need of cleaning and organizing as is the car port, and apparently we are going to the Minecraft exhibit in town this afternoon.

Do you use HF bands or just CB for radio amateuring?

I only have my technician so am limited to vhf/uhf. I have the cb from before I got my ham license.

I see vhf/uhf also not bad especially when you have yagi and can make QSO maybe with ISS or via the moon

Is it that you people over there have been seeing the red sky in the morning these days?

This vision that occurs in the morning is very special and at that time one gets a lot of peace of mind.
