School Winter Concert, Greenhouse Work, Hike, Bald Eagle - Wednesday

in #hive-114308last year

After all the weather we have had this month it's nice to finally have the sun poking through the fog. It took part of the morning to burn off but once it did the ice melted pretty quickly, though not fast enough for the sports car, (likely 2 wheel drive) that ended up in the median out on the highway. I saw the highway patrol slowing then stop with it's lights on on the highway and knew someone was in the ditch.

@stryeyz came home at noon and with my mom we went to the school for the concert. J was one of the kids handing out programs at the ECAP entrance.

This is the longest concert of the school year as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades all sang individually.

There's R walking in with his class and our Superintendent in the gray jacket.

The K/1st graders all crane their heads the moment they get in the room looking for their parents, then are so excited to see them from their place up front. They packed the kids in and had each grade sing songs then together for a few. They all filed out and the 2nd grade then 3rd grade did the same.

The 4th graders were in last only took up part of the stands.

J was on the left and is waving at us. He was pretty close to the microphone and I could hear his voice through most of their songs. Once the concert was over we waited for the boys to be let free and we all headed back across the highway to the farm.

Once @stryeyz went back to work and everything calmed down for the afternoon I headed out to the greenhouse to begin the process of removing the plastic. First I went down the roll-up side and removed the furring strips holding the plastic down.

I laid them out in the order they are attached to make it easy when I reinstall them.

Then the clips came off the pipes holding the plastic on. I had to use the pliers for some but others popped off easily.

Both ends had to get furring pulled off to release the plastic.

The north side got a few of the furring strips removed but I don't want the plastic blowing off so I left some attached to keep it all in place for now. On the rollup side I removed all the clips and freed the pipe which is set out by the furring strips. The plastic will be here tomorrow and the only weather could be today so I will wait to pull the plastic until tomorrow.

I went out to see what the highway patrol was doing as I saw them pulling someone over on the highway. Looked like a speeder so I decided to climb up the hill. It was still cold enough that the snow had not softened too much and I was able to side step my way all the way up.

It wasn't until right near the top where the sun had softened things that it got a bit slick.

I was rewarded with this nice sunny view of the valley.

Our little town.

And the highway to the north. This is what was once known as "Switch Hill" back when the railroad tracks were still down and the trains running.

The snow had done some damage around the farm and this group got laid down flat. One tree just tipped its root ball over and the tree went down. The other tree had been eaten on around the base by the sheep or goats years ago which made a weak spot where it bent at.

I walked across the upper pen and when I got near the Eagle's nest tree they both flew off. One landed in the top of a pin tree a couple hundred feet from the nest.

It was funny watching how far down the branch drooped when it landed on the top of the tree.

It is nearing the time that they will be laying eggs but for sure don't have any as they wouldn't have both flew off like that.

I made a nice and simple dinner but it turned out super tasty. White rice, a bagged Asian salad, and air fried tuna broken up on top. We made it out to soak and lasted about an hour.

Today my macro rail and the new router will be here. The router will be a quick install and will get solid internet to the studio. There is a chance of snow this morning but it looks super mellow. I'll work on the greenhouse some more and maybe pull the plastic, get boys to and from school, water house plants, tend to my skin, and play with the macro rail some.

I can imagine how happy people will be that you saw the sun after so many days of cold, lol

In our country, now winter holidays are being given to children because it is very cold in the morning.

We get snow days here. Just the other day we had a late start as there was too much snow for the buses to safely get around. The cold is never a problem for us as that is every winter here.
