New Greenhouse Plastic, Partial Install, PDC, MAC Minecraft Exhibit - Friday

in #hive-11430811 months ago

Yesterday morning I was waiting with bated breath for my new greenhouse covering to arrive. I was REALLY happy to see UPS drive off at 10am and my box-o-plastic was waiting for me. A 24x42ft sheet of REAL greenhouse covering. It was wrapped up nicely to fit in the box which the discount ended up paying for the shipping.

So I soon was outside and pulling the old plastic off. I got it to fall in a nice pile on itself so it was super easy to roll it up in a neat roll.

My greenhouse looked so weird without a skin. Just bones standing there with a very nice and inviting swath of clear ground within.

Soon I had the new plastic flaked out alongside the greenhouse ready to pull up and over.

I worked consistently but not too fast as I didn't want to harm the plastic at all. I worked it up and over the frame and got it roughly centered over the structure.

I got 24 foot wide plastic and what was on was 20 ft which reached exactly to the ground. I now have a HUGE excess which means I can raise the frame up. When I installed the 20 foot plastic I had to lower the frame to accommodate but now I can raise it up to where it is supposed to be.

So the world championship of darts is happening now thru Jan 3rd and the very first match was Stowe Buntz from the US. I had high hopes for him but he just couldn't get it together in time to win back the legs. He lost 3-0. I stayed inside to watch his match then headed back out to work in the greenhouse.

I removed all the screws that hold the legs at height so I can move them up to gain height on the crown.

I will gain at least 6 inches on each leg and at least 6 inches in the center. It will make a world of difference this next year.

I got the plastic all centered and then checked the weather to see that we are not expecting any winds, in fact an inversion so the plastic is not going anywhere.

The birds love the grain in the garden and the flock was out in it perusing for delectables.

I went and picked the boys up from school, their last day before their winter break now. We got home and @stryeyz was home from work early. We then all piled in the car and headed into Spokane to the MAC, Museum of arts and culture. They have the Minecraft exhibit and this was the 2nd time taking the boys. We have a year pass to the museum so we need to make use of it.

I love this stairwell on the end of the building. They have these displays of the ice age animals that roamed our region. The one that must have been outrageous to catch was the sabertooth salmon. The one in the center is one getting caught by a cat like thing.

Wild the timelines too. There is a native American display that I will post later as I got pictures of every photo in it. Super wild to see the people, native Americans from now central Washington, and just how grizzled and worn even the children looked. Really a good example of how soft our cultures have become.

We left the museum shortly before it closed at 5pm and then headed for home. The boys ended up making dinner then around 8 we went out to soak. I got an hour in before my skin started to fritz out.

Today the PDC is on again, it will be foggy and cloudy but no weather for a while so I will be working on the greenhouse a lot and hopefully will have it done today. If anything I want the hoops raised and the plastic locked down. I have to figure out the ends as I am going to have to fill in the space between the door and window frames and the bottom of the hoops. At some point I will get a chance to play with my macro rail and write more on my story. Then tonight I will grill for dinner.

Your day was quite busy
Is it possible for the boys to come home from school by themselves?

No, even though we are a half mile from the school the school has a distinct hand-over to reduce chances of child abduction. They won't even let them off the bus if there isn't an adult waiting for them at the stop. It's sad since I walked to and from the bus stop every day of my schooling, and it was over half a mile away.

That’s crazy
I never knew things like this happen over there too

It's a world wide problem unfortunately. There are organized human trafficking rings in most every country.

Yeah, the greenhouse did look different bare like that. But it's wonderful that you've put in this level of work to keep it together.
And the beautiful smiles on those young faces is just amazing. Glad you guys got to have that pretty museum experience.🌺

It's nice I now have a lot more room in it so next year will be a good bit easier for me to work with the available space.

Now you have quality plastic for the greenhouse, I'll be curious to see how it does.

During this season, managing things would be a bit difficult as children would also have difficulty returning home from school as there is a lot of snow.
