It Snowed, Morning Of Snowblowing, Sea/Krak, Office Space, Snow Damage - Sunday

in #hive-114308last year

This was what I was awake to see before 5am yesterday. The majority of the snow had fallen by this time and it was just a few bands on the backside of the system that dropped a bit more snow after dawn. We ended up with 6 inches and .87" water content so it was a really wet and heavy snow.

The chokecherry were all bent over from the weight and that is without leaves, they would have been smashed flat if they had leaves.

At 6am a solid little band came through and dumped huge fat flakes for about 5 minutes.

I was surprised there wasn't more damage to all the bushes and trees around the farm but I only ended up finding a few lilacs that snapped off or broke off at the base.

It was about 8:45 when I got out to start the snowblowing. I was a bit concerned whether or not the snowblower would be able to throw the heavy snow but it managed just fine as long as I kept the speed a bit slower.

I worked my way out the driveway and got a couple tire channels cut down the road. It will be a bit before we get the plow down our stub so this will make life much easier coming in and out of the farm until they do plow.

The birds were running from me much of the time as they were thankful to have the cleared areas to walk in but kept getting in front of me.

I was happy to find my Northern Red Oak had not broken, just bent over. So once I shook the snow off it returned almost to upright again.

After about 2 hours I had the driveways all cleared, the paths around, and enough area cleared that the coming week of warmer temps will hopefully melt it down clean where I have snowblown.

The birds spent much of the day in the cleared areas.

At least it wasn't AS BAD of a blow out this time. Seattle still is AWFUL this year in sports. It must be something in the sir or water over there.... Seahawks stinkin up the field and Kraken stinkin up the ice.

After the stinker of a game I put on Office Space as the boys haven't seen it before and it has a common theme amongst other movies. A worm that eats the rounded off change from bank transactions. The same thing as in Hackers.

This is one of the lilacs that fell over. This one was by the firepits and broke at the ground. It looks like it has been pretty rotten for a while so probably about time it fell over.

I got the trailer hooked up an ready for this morning's grain run I have been on already.

We got out to soak a little later and only made it a bit over half an hour.

I have been to town for grain already and will empty the barrels in a while. The boys have a late start thanks to the snow not being plowed off side roads yet so I will get them to school mid morning, I get the network switch today so will get the ends installed on the wire and the ethernet working to the studio, there is a bunch more snow for me to move, I'll get the snow all cleared from the greenhouse and maybe blow more if the machine can handle the wetter and heavier snow now, and I am still researching the macro rail I am going to get for my Nikon.

Glad the snowblower is working well. Lots better than all the shoveling you’ve done in past years!

I think seeing the snow early morning looks more beautiful
The early morning pictures are so cute

I've always loved the look of fresh snow in the dawn lighting. The world is so quiet then too as the snow absorbs all the sound.
