Grain Run, Books, PDC, Pulling Weeds, Gear Check, Weedeating, Firepit, Fire, Grilling - Friday

It was 9am when I left the house yesterday morning for town. Normally I would NEVER be getting grain mid morning but it was a special reason. I got to the brewery and found 2 full barrels which I quickly had loaded into the trailer.

Then I drove up the south hill, which I haven't been up in years, which was a serious schlep through downtown then up the hill and snake through the various older neighborhoods. I finally got to his house and was able to get my 3 paragliding books. All 3 are super books and the Thermal Flying one is the one I am most anxious to read.

I stopped for gas on the way back to the farm.

Then I emptied out the trailer right away and the birds were pretty quick to dive in. You can see the gate open above the trailer, on the other side the alpaca was laying. That was about 10:30.

I found I had only missed the first couple matches of the Nordic Darts Master which I had on mid day.

About noon I went out to the main garden and and spent time [pulling the weeds along the west fence. I more than filled the 30 gallon planting pot and drug it over to the sheep pen where I dumped it out. That was when I saw the alpaca had rolled herself over on her back and couldn't get up. I drug her over onto her belly and she soon was up and staggering around until she got her bearings again. Ruminants can do that where they lay down and their stomachs go wonky and they can't roll over.

In preparation for the climbing trip in a couple weeks I laid out my rack to see what all else we might need to take with us. Nicely I have the bulk of the clean rack and Art will have the bulk of the nailing rack. First Ascents require a healthy amount of various types of gear since there is no knowing what we will encounter.

After picking the boys up from school for their last Friday of the school year I put on my weedeating coveralls and got to work around the farm. I started in the inner yard but moved to the extension by the chives.

Then I finished the inner yard.

I cut through the super tall stand of grass in the cool garden and was able to largely excavate the chives and the few asparagus. I need to rake it up and get it to the animals.

Before 4pm I took R up to his friend's house for their weekly book club which turns into a bit of a gathering by evening, but I had work to do on the farm still.

The fire pit had gotten a bit deep in ashes so it was time to shovel it out.

IMG_20240607_162007.jpg

I was kind of surprised at how much there was, a full wheelbarrow load.

IMG_20240607_162526.jpg

It took a bit of finagling to get the ashes into the garbage can but they fit and I have it set on the wall to dry out over the summer. It will get spread out on the garden next year before I till. I will add to the collection over the year which likely means I should get another can for it.

I got a nice fire going in the pit and used it to help get rid of some of the cardboard pile.

@stryeyz grilled veggies on the Blackstone while I grilled out burgers in the fire pit.

It was a good bit later dinner but we were still out to soak before dark. I forgot to fix the coop door so had to go close it after getting out.

I've started Norwegian on Duolingo since I am studying Runes and old Norse lead directly to Norwegian so it should help me to better learn them over time.

Today I am going back up to Chewelah to hopefully get some flights in this afternoon at Inkler's before we have our club bbq this evening. On my way I am going to stop at Napa and pickup new rear brakes for my truck which are grinding and in dire need of replacement.

Long day as usual😁😁
What’s the weekly book club about?

They get together at one house and bring a favorite book with them. It generally devolves into a play session but still good for them.
