Blinds Install, Minot Discovery Center, Tractor Work, Filling Planters - Monday

in #hive-1143085 months ago

Yesterday morning I continued my installation of blinds around the house. It doesn't take too long to do each one, the longest part is actually taking down the old vertical blinds. I scavenged a few bits from them but they go to the garbage today.

The new blinds look much nicer and block a lot more of the light. They are a little touchy trying to keep them all the way down as they want to lift on their own, but after some use they will stay.

This window in the entry is in such a screwy place and required some climbing around to access it. It was hot as balls and I was sweating quickly being right at the ceiling in the upper floor.

It came out quite nice though but will likely always be closed.

For the afternoon we headed into Minot to the Discovery Center. The 3 story building houses hundreds of projects and stations where kids can roam around and try a litany and various things.

The main floor had a lot of air powered stations. Big vacuums, little ones, air blowers, various labs to work in, and a multi-story thing to climb around in.

This light harp was pretty slick. I was checking out how it's made and it is just IR modules that trigger when you break the beam. This could quite easily be done on an Raspberry Pi.

The bottom floor had the water area and there were some nifty things. Laminar flow jets push a ball up and into the big red funnel on the right. The flow of water can be tested in the long display on the left.

This is just water filling the cylinder but then causing a vortex as it flows out the bottom center.

This room was wild. I spun the hula hoops and it made some wild designs on the wall.

All the kids getting ready for a pic in front of the vacuum wall. You put a fuzz ball or a scarf in the port and it wings it around the tubing and pops it out overhead.

After the Discovery Center we headed to the south end of town, which was only a 5 minute drive.... I forget how close everything is in Minot. We stopped at Menards to pick up some things. The primary being a hand rail that I will be installing.

Once back at the house I managed to get the tractor started and one bucket of dirt about half way across the yard when we saw the front tire was flat. So after a 30 minute wait for the air compressor to cycle enough I got the tire filled and then the dirt lifted over the fence.

The first planting bed went much easier since I got the bucket over the fence and they raked and shoveled it out.

I was staring at this monster wasp nest as I was driving around the yard and finally pulled it out and smashed it. It was old though and not recently in use.

The old Massey Ferguson 100 tractor still has some life left in it.

With the first planter filled my MIL was right at it prepping for putting seeds in.

The other 2 planters got filled from the wheelbarrow that was filled from the bucket. We couldn't get the tractor in so I parked at the back gate and then they all wheelbarrowed loads off dirt to the planters.

THIS blows my mind. CESSNA brand hydraulic cylinder on the tractor!? WTF!?!? Seriously? CESSNA? Again, WTF?

We stopped for dinner then once done eating headed back to work to finish filling the last planter. I had a bucket of dirt that was getting moved when this little storm cell came rushing past and dropped a bit of rain.

It didn't last long and we were able to finish moving the dirt. This is the dark ND soil. Far cry from the soil on our farm.

The last planter filled it was almost 9pm and we were all pretty worn out.

Today we will be heading to SIL's house for the day to hang out and let the boys run and play. This morning I have to get the garbage out to the curb since it is a good bit more than normal. I still have 2 blinds to install and the safety rail which I will get to on Wednesday most likely.

That is a good kind of activities and I really amazed of the kids because they did their best to help creating the structure. Discovery center helps the children to gain more ideas about recycling and any other kinds of good activities, They will also learn the different kinds of things they seen around. 👏👍

Wow
The kids are the real one mehn
They did their best
Maybe that’s their way of celebrating the children’s day😀😀

We all should do our own housework in the same way, it is very beneficial.
