The construction of the west African biggest coconut oil refinery is ongoing in akwa ibom state as we speak, the refinery is by name, St. Gabriel Coconut Oil Refinery Project is a major industrial investment by Akwa Ibom State Government, the refinery comprises of the factory complex, the administrative offices, production unit, technical spaces, industrial firefighting systems, water treatment plants, effluent treatment plants and residential quarters for technical and managerial staff as well as parking areas for tractors carrying raw materials.
The project is located at Ikot Akpan Okop village in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, it covers about 7.88 hectares, not very far from the state University. The total construction area is 15,000 m2. The project started by the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in May 24th, 2017
The St. Gabriel Coconut Oil refinery is being handled by VKS Nigeria Construction Limited. The project by design has projected capacity of processing one million coconuts a day,but its is said to start with a capacity of 300,000 coconuts everyday at the start and will increase with time.
