A Hobby that Became a Business.

I have always liked to appreciate the shine, the stones, all those beautiful details that involve costume jewelry, which goes beyond the creation of accessories for our use, it is also an expression of art, there is also hard work behind it. Since I was a little girl I was very interested in making bracelets which is one of my favorite accessories, I was excited every time I discovered how to make some kind of macrame knot or when I found a beautiful stone with which I could make something for me. So little by little it became a hobby and a pastime.

I don't have pictures of this, at that time I didn't have a good camera, I think I didn't even have a phone, but I have several creations saved in my memory, and at this moment I'm thinking that I did all that, probably most of them I was giving away little by little to my sisters and my cousins, I still have some pieces that I photographed so they have an idea of my work.

Making costume jewelry is relaxing and at the same time not so much, because you have to have a lot of patience to work with so many small pieces, but it is a very good way to channel your energy and get lost for hours from the outside world and immerse yourself in the middle of beads, stones, glitter and details. Whenever I worked on it, I always accompanied it with music, usually electronic, so I had a lot of fun, the best thing was the satisfaction when I saw the result or when I put on some accessory and someone told me, how beautiful where you bought it. That felt really good.

A few years ago I stopped working, to dedicate myself full time to finish my career, I'm about to achieve it, however things did not go as I wanted and the University closed its doors for a long time, then I had a lot of free time, I started to watch a lot of video tutorials on the internet and started to create more and more jewelry with material I had at home, ribbon cuttings, until a cousin told me you should sell accessories, that idea stayed in my mind for a few days, until I decided to take my savings, go to the store and buy everything I liked. So I started a small business that helped me for some time.

Buy, design, make, show and sell, five steps that translate into extra money that we all need, but to this we must add something very important, effort, dedication and passion. Without passion it is difficult to succeed.

My main customers were my cousins and my closest friends, I sold them very easily, especially the tendrils in macrame and soutache, this technique was very fashionable at that time and still continues to be, but at that time it was the boom in accessories, so it was what I made and sold like hot cakes. I did well, my earnings were not much, but I managed to survive for a while thanks to this hobby that became a small business.

I stopped making jewelry to sell, because the raw material became very expensive, so the investment I had to make was very high, plus the glue I needed for soutache garments, was difficult to find, at least of good quality, so I preferred to let it go, rather than offer a product that would be damaged soon. Now I only make very occasionally, maybe I will take up again this beautiful hobby in the future, when my baby is not so curious, I'm afraid he will put these things in his mouth, I took the pictures on the sly, because I know him if he discovers this box, he will not leave it alone.
