Whoo Hoo Happy Monday!!
How can I be this excited on a Monday you ask? Well, because on Hive it’s not just Monday it’s NeedleWorkMonday! 😃😄
Since we are running the FOCUS Your Needlework Challenge this month I decided to showcase the baby blanket I am working on.
A good friend of mine recently had a baby girl (her sixth child) and mentioned that she would love to have something crocheted for her. It’s been awhile since I made a blanket so you can imagine my excitement to get started on this.
I also plan on making her a matching hat along with a jumper outfit as well.
When you have a closet full of yarn stash that hasn’t been used for months you get a little giddy when it’s time to pick out and coordinate colors. I actually chose to keep the colors similar to the pattern I’m using because I fell in love with the combination.
I like this blanket because it has a pop of colors on both ends which doesn’t call for a continuous changing of yarns. The body of the blanket is a repeat of easy stitches that I don’t have to think much about. This allows me to be able to sit with my family, watch television etc. while working on it.
The stitch used in this pattern is called the berry stitch. I love that it’s simple but still stands out a bit. I didn’t want to do a stitch that would take up so much time because I want her baby to have this blanket by the Fall season.
Seeing how fast it’s coming along (in the photos the blanket is folded so it’s longer than what you can see) I’ll be finished way before Summer ends.
Speaking of changing yarns I thought it would be cool to make an artistic photo out of the yarn ends. A lot of times in my photos I intentionally hide them because I feel they take away from the beauty of the project. In this case I tried to bring out the beauty of the process…
That’s another tip about thinking outside of the box when showcasing your needlework. You can make something that’s normally looked at as an eye sore to something eye catching and fashionable.
There’s not terribly too many so I’m not complaining this time about having to sew them in. However, that may change when it’s actually time to do so hahaha 🤪!
The foot rest in the photos belongs to my daughter. The day she purchased it I asked her if I could borrow it to do this photoshoot lol. I immediately saw how perfect it would be to pair with the blanket.
One of the tips I gave was to pair your needlework with other items to enhance your photo and make it more interesting. This foot stool compliments the blanket but doesn’t take away from it. I wanted to take the photos outside but would never lay the blanket directly on the ground. Having an item that would hold it up for display was necessary.
I’m looking forward to completing this blanket so that her baby girl can enjoy it. When my babies were babies I loved seeing them roll around and crawl on the blankets I made for them. I hope she enjoys it as much as mine did.
I hope to see more FOCUS entries this week 😍😘!! Have fun and remember that you are putting your needlework in the spotlight. Make it runway ready! 😃😉
