Handpainting leather bags

I did these designs for a friend who wanted to help me out by giving me the freedom to paint some leather bags and actually getting paid for my service.

I can't express enough how nice it feels to receive the honour of a vote of confidence when someone pretty much says:hey, you're talented, I trust you to do your thing on these and I will pay you.

I love to have creative freedom therefore I was totally in my element.

I wanted to paint the first leather bag with a simple white pattern.

Some pictures taken during the painting process:

The second one is more colorful. I wanted to keep it simple as I tend to overcomplicate things.

The backpack already had a bright blue colour so I thought that a more abstract simple design would have been better. I watched a documentary about zebras one night before so I guess I took some inspiration from there.

I had a good time painting these as I always feel in a state of flow when I paint🥰

You are definitely brave! The first one is my favorite because I love the green-yellow color combination.

What paint have you been using and the most important, what will be the faith of these bags? ☺️

Thank you🤗 I initially thought that the bold colorful combo of green and yellow won't sell, but my friend told me that that particular bag sold first. Haha. So in regards to what will catch the eyes of a woman in the matter of purse buying...you will never know lol.

I am using Angelus paints. They are super good, very rich in pigments and they are especially made for painting leather.

These bags will be sold by my friend. So I can only hope they will end up in good hands😁

Thanks so much🤗 Yup, getting paid to create art is truly every artist's dream. Often friends expect a free thing and don't realize that the best help you can offer an artist, besides nice words of appreciation, is to actually buy their art.

I really like the blue backpack. That's really cool. Nice work on all of them though. What's the "wear and tear" like on the paint? Like do you have to seal them with something so it doesn't rub off over time or are they just for show?

Hey! I also like that one too. The paint is super resistant as it is designed to work on leather . I work with Angelus paints, they are the top of the brand when it comes to leather painting

I seal it off one day after with this

The wear and tear is great. Unless someone would think about taking a metal scrubber and manually clean their leather item then this is not going away lol. It is wearable art. I think that possibly on a wallet the design would wear off sooner because of how often we touch it. Other than that....it works pretty good😁

I can see woman coming to you once their bags are worn and need new life. A lot of times we don’t want to give up our favorite bags but they begin to look not so good after awhile. I love this, it’s amazing how far your art talent can go. Keep up the amazing work. I’m really loving that zebra one as well as the diamond shapes one (with the blue, green, purple and yellow).

Thank you very much🤗 There is always a lot of emotional value connected to an item. And I can understand this perfectly. Leather can be restored, as long as it is not fully damaged. I saw women also restoring old pairs of shoes , like a Louboutin ( I hope I wrote it right lol).
