St. John’s Wort (Hypericum Perforatum)
Flowering between May and July, now it is the time of year to make the medicinal oil that will later serve us for the rest of the year.
the preparation process is fairly straight forward and takes little work.
flowers need to be collected in a quantity that will fill the jar you want to prepare, without having to compact them in.
once a jar is full of the flowers, it is time to add the oil. we use our home grown extra virgin olive oil.
once oil is added, close the lid and leave in full sun for about a month. the oil will then turn red.
the last step is to pour the oil through a strainer and only keep the pure oil, free of flowers or leaves.
The oil is then ready to be used and can be kept indoors. it can be used for a very very long time, it will not go bad.
there is just one important word of warning:
this oil is photo sensitive, so it is recommended to never use it on bare skin exposed to the sun.
