[ENG-ESP] Restoration of Jean Jacket from the 70s - Restauración de Chaqueta de Jean de los años 70

in #hive-1279113 years ago
A few days ago my uncle told me that he has several pants that he would like to hem because they are enormously long !! So he gives them to me to sew. When he was measuring them, he told me that he has had a jean jacket since the 70s but that he no longer uses it because the collar was so worn that it seemed to be dirty and that if that could be accommodated. I asked to see it and I fell in love, if it had been mine I would continue to use it despite the worn neckline. It was in perfect condition despite the neck. I said yes, that I could accommodate it.

He wanted me to put a patch on it and that's it. But how could he do that sacrilege with a sooooo pretty garment?

Here's the jacket with the worn collar. It really was not so noticeable, and less put on(Aquí esta la chaqueta con el cuello desgastado. Realmente no se notaba tanto, y menos puesta).

So what I did was take the whole collar apart, unstitch it, and replace the worn cape with a new one. Wear an old jean that was torn instead of buying new fabric. Pretty much a recycling project in its entirety hahaha.

Unstitching the neck seam. (Descosiendo la costura del cuello.)

Then very, very carefully I sewed the collar back, ironed it, and then attached it to the rest of the jacket. It was very complicated because I have a homemade machine and the fabric was very thick.

If you compare the bottom layer with the outer layer, you can see that the collar was very worn. Apart from having almost no color, it had some spots. But something totally normal for such an old jacket.

Do you sometimes feel like you spend more time ironing, unstitching, etc ... than actually sewing?

10.jpg

Use a very thick mustard yellow thread for the outer seams very similar to the original seams so that you will not notice the difference.

I also sewed the new fabric layer on the bottom. Despite choosing a similar color, it is not the same fabric and as I am a perfectionist, I preferred to put the original fabric on the outside instead of the new fabric so that the difference would not be noticed.

The latter is what the new fabric layer looks like. )

And here are my uncle and tommy happy with the new life that has his favorite jacket.
