Hello everyone!
Winter has arrived, December has come with a beautiful and cool breeze. Although Indonesia only has 2 seasons, namely summer and rainy season, in between the two seasons, the weather conditions are very good.
Usually, with this good weather I do a routine to propagate my plants and also a good time to repot the plants that need to be moved to more suitable pots.
This time there are only 2 ornamental plants that I will treat, namely Singonium variegata and Monstera deliciosa.
Repotting Monstera King Deliciosa
For the first time, I will move my ornamental plant, monstera deliciosa which has been treated with water propagation to multiply roots. Because like my story 2 months ago, I cut the stem of my mother-in-law's montera deliciosa.
Finally after more than 2 months, the roots of the monstera can grow well, even though my heart was beating very fast, because I was afraid of this plant dying, usually water propagation experiments are very high risk for plants, I am grateful, this plant still wants to continue its life journey with me .
I use a very porous planting medium, because a porous planting medium will help the roots to grow well and avoid root rot. I used 25% pine bark, 15% hydrotone, 25% roasted husk, 35% chopped fern. I got all of these planting media from local farmers at a fairly cheap price. So that I can save money, even though last month, the price of all planting media soared.
Not only planting media, I also added decastar fertilizer made in Thailand, decastar is a chemical fertilizer that will dissolve in 180 days. So it is very suitable for very axis planting media. I only added 3 grams to 1 liter of growing media.
Cutting Stems Syngonium
Second, I have a potted ornamental plant Syngonium variegata which is growing well and has mature leaves. Since the roots of the wind are starting to not hold on to the soil, it would be better if I cut some of the stems so they can grow well in the pot.
Tips:
In cutting the stem, pay attention to the knife or scissors that will be used. I usually sterilize all tools using alcohol or sanitizer, wipe with clean cotton, so that the tools will not contaminate the plants to be treated, thereby minimizing failure.
There are some leaves and stems that do not have wind roots, for treatment of stems that do not have wind roots, I will soak them with water (water propagation), but before soaking I will give 'root up' as a stimulant so that the roots are easy to develop with good. Just like the montera deliciosa that I cut the stem yesterday.
After I give root up, I will wait for 5 minutes, then the stem is immersed into a glass that already contains clean water, I usually collect rainwater for the purposes of my ornamental plants. It would be better if all treatments on ornamental plants, using rainwater which is high in nitrogen and other nutrients, which are needed by plants.
In addition to repotting and cutting, I will also water the plants today using the rice washing water that I have prepared. One of the uses of rice washing water is to add vitamins to plants. Thiamin or B1 that plants need is in the rice washing water, tho. So that it becomes a natural fertilizer for ornamental plants.
The function of vitamin B1 is to neutralize stress on plants after repotting or cutting.
