Hi gardener fellas, i am back after long time not writing about my garden. since my son got sick last month, i complete forgot about my succulent garden because i am confuse about taking care my wife and my son at that time. And it make me lost few cactus. some of them got crispy dry.
So in this update i will showing you about Sunburn.
SUNBURN
Sunburn caused cripple in the body of cactus or succulent. It is okay if the Sunburn get on the leaf of the succulent. But it is not okay if burn the body of cactus. Because the burn will make the body having scar and cannot be healed.
This is some picture i collected with my cactus that got sunburned
The picture one is the cactus that got sunburned long time ago. maybe it get burned in 2020 or 2021 when it is still small. And the second one it got sunburned lately. Not to fatal until cracking. But,still it will make scar in its body. I dont know how come The Gymnocalycium Damsii Variegata got sunburned, as far as i know this cactus loving sunrays very much.
Only this cactus that got sunburned. The others still releasing strong colour in their body
I am put them side by side. But there is different outcome. But,maybe it is my conclution. The larger pot will holding more water inside the soil. and the smaller pot will having less water in its soil. So, when the heat coming up and the sunrays is brighter and hotter than usual, the smaller pot will running out the water first and make the cactus cannot chance the water to energy to growing up. but, it is just my logic, i dont really know it. Need deeper research.
And for your information, here in Surabaya city Indonesia, the temperature still hot everyday due the EL NINO effect. So it will be no rain until November or December this year. It will make my cactus got dry every 2 days. Thats why now i need more regularly watering my succulent every 2 days to fullfil their water needed.
But after experiencing sunburn like that. i have initiative to moving my cactus in place that having more shadowed and less getting sunrays. It will prevent my cactus and succulent get burned.
REPOTTING
The only problem in my succulent garden is not only the temperature now. With the temperature that very hot which is the cactus loves it so much. There will be a problem with the overgrowth. When overgrowth come, it will need to be repotting and move it to bigger pot planter.
The root will finding a way to seeking some food nutrient in soil thats why it will make it out from the drainage pot planter and it will make the plant not getting healthier but can broke the plant itself. We dont know what nutritional content outside the planter. Thats why i need to repotting my cactus. So i am choosing some of my cactus that overgrowth and repotting them
With new pot planter the root will having place and can absorb the nutrient maximally. With this the cactus can grow bigger and bigger.
GOOD NEWS
Not only bad news i have, when i cleaning up my backyard garden and moving my plants. i have pretty good news that make my heart fully of joy.
my cactus having will flowering soon. Need to waiting some time maybe around 3-4 weeks for the flower bloom perfectly.
My Dorstenia become a giant plant. I love watching this plant grow bigger and bigger. Having lust leaves and still producing seed that i dont know where the seed going.
Look at this seed that will be pooping out in maybe around 4-5 days. it will make the new plants.
And last but not least new shading place for all my succulents plants and it will be more neat than before.
