Chives With Yellow Tofu in Soy Sauce

The fresh chives seduced my eyes. Made my mind run through a selection of the most likely recipes for serving chives.

To be honest I haven't eaten from chives in a long time. That's because, in the area where I live, chives are not popular as side dishes. We could only find it at a Chinese restaurant.

I was lucky some time ago to find chives in a traditional market which I also visited again after a while. So, I am super excited to cook chives after such a long time. It was like reliving the good old days, with memories in the kitchen being so happy, with my family members.


Because chives have a relatively strong aroma, so my family members are not used to enjoying chives as garnishes or salads. So, I thought of other menu alternatives for lunch.

I remember the side dishes menus again to accompany eating rice that my mother previously prepared. Currently, my mother is no longer allowed to cook by me because I am worried that she will be exhausted and will disturb her health.

Yellow Tofu.

Yellow tofu is the perfect ingredient to add to your chives dish. So, soy sauce seasoning was what I chose at that time. My past thoughts remind me of stir-fry chives with yellow tofu served with warm rice and a sprinkling of fried onions. I will share this simple recipe with you guys.


THE INGREDIENTS

  • one or two bunches of chives
  • 5 blocks of yellow tofu (you can use white tofu in general as well)
  • soy sauce to taste
  • water to taste
  • salt, and pepper, to taste
  • red onions
  • garlic
  • chili
  • kaffir lime leaves

HOW TO MAKE IT

STEP 1

Take some chives. Then cut the part near the white bulbs. In this recipe, I did not use part of the white bulbs. But it depends on your personal taste whether to use their white bulbs or not.




STEP 2

Cut the chives to a length of a few cm but not too long or vice versa not too short.

STEP 3

Prepare seasonings, such as chopping onions, garlic, and chili.

STEP 4

Heat the oil, then sauté the garlic, onion, chili, with kaffir lime leaves. Cook until fragrant. Then, add soy sauce, water, pepper, and salt to taste.

STEP 5

Add the yellow tofu pieces. Then mix well.

STEP 6

After about 3 minutes, or while the tofu are still half cooked, add the chives pieces. Cook until the chives are wilted and the spices are thickened. You can add cornstarch solution for those of you who like thick gravy.

Serve chives with yellow tofu as side dishes, with warm rice topped with fried onions. Or, add sesame seeds and crispy crackers to make eating more exciting. Have fun, HIVE Lovers.

yes I think chives is not a common ingredient for most of Indonesia, only Chinese-influenced cuisine used it as the ingredient.
