Soft texture. Not everyone likes that. It's like you ate a monster's vomit. It just might happen. It happened to me once in the past. Previously, I found overripe papaya on a tree. I took the papaya and I felt uncomfortable because the papaya was so soft and it didn't smell good.
From the past, we learn something. Not to repeat the same thing, and look for another way. Since that incident in the past, I have never enjoyed overripe papaya directly. If I find papaya overripe, then I will make smoothies that are combined with other fruits so that the aroma and taste of papaya can no longer be dominant. so, better to avoid overripe papaya. I try my best to buy half-cooked papaya with a crunchy texture.
Maybe those of you who read my blog don't like papaya either. But, I think you should try to start liking papaya. Because papaya is very good for digestion. When digestion is smooth and good, it will be very influential for our body's fitness. Also, papaya is believed to be good for skin health. for the important trick, you should buy half-cooked papaya like mine in this recipe this time, to avoid strange effects on your tongue.
For me and my family, we regularly eat papaya to benefit our digestion. It keeps us away from constipation. We are used to eating papaya in raw condition when the papaya is not too ripe or even when the papaya is half ripe.
A New Way to Enjoy Papaya
For those of you old followers, I may already know that I am happy to post something new from my kitchen experiments. This time, this simple recipe that I share is also the first thing I made. But take it easy. If I post about this, it means this recipe is working great and results in something great to try.
A walk in the garden is the quickest way to get inspiration for a new menu. I was also inspired to combine papaya and coconut in one serving plate. I didn't think long about whether the idea would work. I have a good feeling about them. Both of them are familiar to my tongue and my family. So, it won't be a problem at all for me to introduce the taste of this new combination, to my family.
I combine this new way of enjoying papaya with grated coconut which has been cooked until it has a dry texture. Papaya and coconut can easily be found in an area. In my opinion, if you find it hard to find papaya, you will also have a hard time finding coconut. But, if you can find papaya but can't find coconut, so here are the tips for replacing coconut:
- use slices of roasted almonds or peanuts. Try to chop them into small pieces like crumbs.
- use dried coconut which you can buy at a vegan product shop.
Playing around with the texture of the main ingredients is important in creating variations on a menu. In this recipe, I combine the soft texture of papaya with the dried texture of grated coconut. So, if you replace coconut with chopped roasted almonds or peanuts, then it will be a great option.
The Ingredients
- half a large ripe papaya, or one small papaya.
- half of the grated coconut
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- (optional) pandan leaves or vanilla
How To Serve It
Prepare the Coconut.
To use freshly grated coconut, grated coconut must be prepared. Because I use a cheese grater, so I have to remove the coconut meat from the coconut shell. After that, I cut them into smaller sizes. This is to make it easier for me to grate the coconut.
Grate Coconut.
Grate the coconut carefully. This step is enough to eat up my energy. But it's fun to do, as usual.
Cook Grated Coconut.
After obtaining the grated coconut, it's time to cook the grated coconut to dry the texture of the grated coconut which was originally moist.
I use a non-stick pan, over medium heat. Also, don't forget to add salt and pandan leaves or vanilla powder/vanilla essence. Constantly stir the grated coconuts as they burn very easily.
Cook them until the moist texture of grated coconut can turn dry, although not too dry. Adjust to your tastes or needs. Then, set aside.
Prepare Papaya.
First, wash the papaya because we will touch the papaya directly when we peel the papaya later. Split into two parts. Then remove the seeds and peel the papaya skin.
Here I just use half of the papaya. But I also clean the leftover papaya to be stored in the refrigerator for the next day.
Cut Papaya Into Small Pieces.
Cut the papaya into small bites. Store papaya pieces that will not be served right away in a closed container. Or, you can freeze papaya chunks to make smoothies at a later date.
SERVE IT.
Place the papaya pieces on a serving bowl or plate. Then sprinkle with grated coconut that has been cooked dry before. Also, you can add a sprinkling of crunchy things for additional taste.
This method will be a fun new way. In particular, my family members agree that this is a delicious way to eat papaya. I'm glad to hear that opinion.
Well, we can use other fruit to be combined with dried grated coconut. Kiwi or melon also works great with coconut as well. Hope you can try this new way to enjoy fresh fruit.
