Hello beautiful people...
Growing up was so much fun for me as I lived with two of my cousin's brothers who were talented and loved crafts and art as much as I did.
There's this joy that comes from doing what you love to do, it brings unexplainable happiness.
I remember how we made humans from paper, canoes and so many crafts you can think of today and then while making them we created our world of happiness, it got to a point where our parents began buying paper for us to keep creating because they realised it brought us so much joy.
We are all grown now and two of them have now traveled overseas even though we face time every weekend, I still miss my childhood days with them and making this Origami brought back nostalgia and I enjoyed the process as I did it with all of my heart.
So I stumbled on a contest on the #DIY community and I felt I should jump on it even though the actual day to celebrate paper craft has passed which is 11th November.
I began my Origami journey today using fluorescent paper (Green and Red).
I found them in a stationery store and had in mind to use the sugar paper until my eyes caught these beautiful colours so I changed my mind and went fot the fluorescent paper instead.
The materials I worked with are;
Ruler
Top Gum
Scissors
Fluorescent Paper
Pencil
I had so many things in mind to make, which I might still make as entries to this contest if time permits me, but as soon as I saw the colours, The animal (or bird) peacock 🦚 came to mind because of its beautiful colours.
So I began my project by cutting out the 6 inches by 10 inches on the paper,
It came out as a square after cutting and here it is.
I used the back of the green colour which gave me a white colour at the end of the day.
I folded it into two halves as seen here, to mark out the mid-point.
Then I folded the quarter part of the paper one-sided.
And I did the same for the other side and this is what it looks like.
I did the same for the part that is still unfolded.
And this is what it looks like too.
For a clearer understanding, I took a picture of the back view.
And also the side view.
And the other side.
Now, after that, I opened it again to proceed to craft.
I flipped the end part of the longer side up to represent the head of the peacock
This is what it looks like from the back.
And here is a clearer picture. I folded it into equal halves again.
This is the side view after folding the head and sides.
Then I folded it to the right side, to add strength to it.
And did the same to the second side as well.
The reason for folding this is so that it can stand on its own.
Here is the bottom view.
And now, it's beginning to make sense right?
Here is it standing on its own.
It's looking like a bird without feathers here, so it's about time to make colourful feathers for this bird.
I cut out another piece of paper, 12 inches by 12 inches from the colour green and red respectively.
The step-by-step process is arranged orderly on the collage
I began to make a beautiful pleat on both papers as seen here.
I brought out my gum and added the pleated papers of different colours together using my top gum and then I left a little space to insert my bird.
Here I am inserting my bird to the feathers.
This is what it's looking like already.
I cut out tiny red paper to form the eyes of the bird
And tada...
My beautiful origami peacock is ready.
Upon seeing the outcome of this bird, I sat down for a moment and began to reminisce once again about my childhood days wearing the most beautiful smile ever.
I chose to craft a Peacock because it denotes beauty and versatility.
I love trying different things and I kove varieties.
The beautiful feathers of a peacock remind me that life is beautiful and should be lived to the full.
It reminds me that art is life and a form of expression of what we feel inside of us.
I am excited I could unleash my creativity on this piece of paper and I am more than excited I could join in the fun of creating a beautiful bird on the #DIYOrigami contest I hope you enjoyed the process of making this beautiful bird.
