Busy Sunday | Mending Texts and Doors

in #hive-1688693 years ago

Once in a while we visit my wife's aunt to share some tea time and use her internet connection, which is still good. Last week we noticed that the door to the library room was a bit broken. We decided to mend it a little bit (even though I know nothing about carpentry).

So, we did it today. I had some pending editing work to do and worked on that first. Then, at about noon, my wife and I started working on the door.

This is how it looked.

I removed the hinges and carryied outside the appartment.

I applied a soft sand-paper just to remove old glue and even the surface. Then, brushed off the dust.

Then, I applied glue. This glue is not very good and not having the right tools to fix the veneer in place, we had to use tape.

It did not look too firm at the end, but it definitely looked better than it was. We have to go again next weekend to reinforce it with some small nails. Hopefully, it won't be necessary (if the glue sticks well).

We had a good time sharing with Aunt Malvina. We had home-made pizza and I was able to finish a second editing work that had kept me bussy for two weeks. All in all, it was a very productive Sunday.

Thanks for stopping by

How kind! :)

Thanks. This lady is the most generous person you can imagine. My daughter wrote a post about her. All we can do for her we do it without thinking it twice. Her only son had to leave Venezuela many years ago and we try to provide whatever kind of support we can give. There are a couple of pending repairs we hope to do in the next weeks.

Sorry to butt into this conversation, but she is also the BEST professor you can ever have. She was so goood!

She is. Not only is she knowledgeable, she is funny, dedicated, and inspiring. She makes anyone around feel special. In her 70s she is stll producing some kind of intellectual material, contributing to a god-forsaken city that chews its intellectuals and spits them shamelessly.

Growing up I had to learn so many things and carpentry was one of them. You did good job. 🤗☺️

🙂 Thanks. You are certainly a jack-of-all-trades. I admire that.

Well, when you don't have brothers to help, you have to do it yourself.

God bless brotherless sisters 😂

🤣😂😂🤣

It is important to learn various crafts such as carpentry and repairing water taps because we use it daily, great job 👍

Thanks. Plumbing is a pending subject for me.

Well done, I think that you caught it just in time and I'm sure your wife's aunt was very appreciative.

Thanks. She was. Sometimes she jokes about my being looking around for things to repair, clean, or change. I don't really do it, but some things can be spotted easier than others. In fact, some can be fixed easier. If we can do it, we help happily. She deserves it.
Thanks for stopping by.

That's really cool of you. It's always nice to help out family if you can do it yourself instead of having to call in a repair person.

Stay well and have a lovely day

It's always a good thing to be able to repair items, and even more important to know how to learn how to do it when needed. That's awesome.

It is. I actually regret I did not learn more things when I was younger. Most of my friends learned the basics of mechanics, for instance. There was this garage shot near my house that had become some sort of rite of passage. That never called my attention and now I can barely put gas in a car's tank. 😌
The circumstances here have forced us to improvise and learn as we go. Having things fixed by pros or buying new are not affordable options.

Good job, better company !

Thanks. How are things going over there?

Fine! Kind of ! Missing family and friends sometimes.

I can imagine. It gets better in time

I dont want to come back. That's for sure !

Can't blame you. Wish you a successful uprooting and replanting. You gotta do what you gotta do.
