This is my post for #freewriters Saturday prompt hard liquor hosted by @mariannewest
On one of our trips to what we call the cheap food store, we bought some purple potatoes. I had never seen purple ones before. The skin and meat are purple. When you boil them the water turns an ugly purple color, not pleasing at all.
Since the purple potatoes are sprouting eyes, I decided that I would plant some. We have several of these blue barrels, I used the saws-all and cut one lengthwise then drilled holes in the bottom of it. I am going to plant some of the purple potatoes.
I am wondering if we could make a hard liquor from some of them. I think vodka is made from potatoes. If we can make it, maybe we will start a new fad, purple vodka.
I am running a little late on getting potatoes planted here in Florida but better late than never. The University of Florida says to plant potatoes in January but if I go by the Farmers Almanac planting root crops by the moon, I am not supposed to plant them until 25 or 26 of February. So who is right?
The blackberries think it is spring, but I am afraid that we could still get a freeze. 7 years ago yesterday we had a bad freeze, so I am not counting it out.
