I’m about to leave for a 5-day hike along the southern coast of South Africa with a group of 16 women! And let me tell you, it’s just a little bit nerve wracking to know it’s only going to be women.
I’ve grown up a bit of a Tom-boy, playing in trees, sailing, helping my dad respray a car, and although I’m now also a girlie girl and love a pamper, the idea of spending 5 days with only women is daunting. I’ve always found the company of guys easy and less finicky than women. Is that strange?
Anyway, I might be a Tom-boy but I have highlighted my hair ever since I was a teenager and my bright natural white blonde had started to fade to a more mousy tone. And that is one girly spoil that I am not giving up!
Amongst the jam making (I have started my own jam business) and organising for Christmas, I had to make sure I fitted in a salon appointment. It had to be close enough to Christmas to last a few weeks and before my big hike with the ladies. So yesterday was the day!
I had a new stylist (apparently the previous one needed to take some time to herself) but this new lady was so sweet and lovely. You know when you’re just on the same wavelength as someone else? We chatted for most of the two and half hours that I was there. Foils take ages, but luckily I tend to do a half head and then the waiting afterwards for it to sit and change colour. The joys of being a woman. Luckily there’s no pain involved.
We chatted about family, Covid (of course), kids, discipline, bad hair colour dramas and all the other stuff you tend to talk about in a hair salon. It’s amazing how quickly you open up to a person that you have never met before just because you’re stuck in a chair with your head in their hands.
The lovely stylist through in a free toner at the wash basin and gave me a lovely straight blow dry before she had to head home to her daughter.
I’m really happy with the natural blonde colour that she managed to pull off on my hair.
But here’s is me now with no makeup bush tinting my eyebrows!!!! 😂 well??!! When you’re hiking for 5 days it’s not like you’re going to put in makeup every day. So I’ve resolved to tint my light blonde eyebrows and just add a touch of waterproof mascara each morning. And that’s it. Low maintenance. No fuss.
Don’t worry, the end result is far lighter and less severe than the tinting process.
And now I’m throwing my final bits a pieces in a bag for my 5-day hike.
For those who know that I usually blog quite regularly I’ll be off the grid so see you next week.
