Freshwater Fish Tank Build - My Aquatic Decoration Experiences and Thoughts

It has been a while, but I personally enjoy decorating glass tanks with freshwater fish. Whenever I gaze into the glass especially during the night time where the fish tank lights are the only lights turned on in the room.... With all the time and space that was given that day... I feel most present in the "now" at that time.

There is some sort of tranquility and a feeling of peace and calmness when looking through that glass pane full of water, with some plantation, and couple of fish.

Keep in Mind this laborious activity can only be experienced in the "Weekends" - No way in hell I can do this after work.

By adding a lot of play into your mind it really brings out the best when you can use both your imagination with what you see in reality. For example, added sound of the flowing water circulating through my water filter is like a small stream... the clear water makes it looks as if the fish are floating in air.

Its great to be like Calvin and Hobbes in this moment... :)

Visually its so mesmerizing to see it in the night. During the day not so much because the light surrounding the tank is much brighter so the effect and vibe is not much there...I show an example below of my tank setup.

I do wonder if some people have a similar experience when circumstances are the same.
I find that I owning an aquarium is unique and rewarding to look at when it all works... :)
Let me elaborate on some things I wish I knew before I got into "weekend" building fish tank aquariums. :)

#1. Cost Behind the Scenes

At first I just wanted something that was cost effective and care-free. This was the very beginnings so I didn't think too much of it and was thinking it would be temporary... kind of like how we took care of our first gold fish when we were kids. I absolutely had no idea it would grow into something I later commit my time and spend quite a lot of money actually....

What was initially supposed to be a cheap temporary desk decoration later when scaling up to a bigger size things got expensive fast.

I always wanted to get a salt water aquarium however I do know when you enter salt water territory, it expensive from the start, its very high maintenance, and if you dont know what your doing the entire eco system can just fail. Even now I hesitate when I look at even just the water filter equipment for salt water... So I will stick with freshwater for now... :)

#2. Themed Eco-System

The tank is your blank canvas and you can try decorating the environment anyway you want. It takes some practice to be honest to actually make it look good because who in the world knows how to interior design a fish tank in the first place? My experience is, all truth... I had a dream... an imagination of underwater paradise.... I bought whatever I thought would fit the theme and carefully arranged the sand, rocks, plants, props... and finally poured the water.

Looked like a circus.

I imagined Lord of the Ring kind of place and it ended up looking like Circus Circus from Las Vegas. Waters already in... just live with it until I get a new tank or something, and yet you keep buying props to try and fix the circus... it actually did pay off eventually. Literally paid off after several hundreds of dollars of buying props that has absolutely no use for other purposes.

HOWEVER!! I did see an aquarium where I was TOTALLY MIND BLOWN... Let me show you.

I remember when I used to live in Shanghai there was an aquarium store where they made the aquarium look like almost another world inside with real plantation and carefully arranged interior.

It looked so natural!!! Like as if they cut a perfect square slice off from the amazon freshwater lakes!!! Whoever made these must really took their time observing every detail of the real thing....

#3. No One Really Cares, But You... so Enjoy it!

At the end of the day the fish tank should be enjoyed 100% through you. I often showed my aquarium to my friends when they came over, they never see it in the same detail as I do... so I am guessing this is more of a inner personal hobby in contrast to a more social "bring the dogs to the doggy park." kinda of vibe? Ahhhhhh who cares... I placed mine next to my sofa, next to my work desk, and other various locations often to find the best spot. I think next to the sofa was the best configuration because you can lay back and really just get into it... with a beer or a joint. :) or both.... and just Chill.... That was some good times.

Can anyone explain to me what these two are doing? They do this a lot... kind of rub each others head and swim in sync. Are they mating or fighting? Good times~

Thanks for reading my honest blogs :)
Hope to come up with more topics you might be interested.

Those are some big tanks!

I had no idea water can be extremely heavy before moving my last fish tank. Its amazing heavy. :)

I thought my neighbor had a big tank, but those look huge!

Water is very heavy for sure!!

No backlash here, only straight facts.

A good weekend activity.

Gotta relate to anticipate!!.........ahem.

Please try and add a strong weekend focus to your posts as I mute those who do not.

got it~ I was trying to bring something new but I get your point. will do from now on. :)

If it's not strongly weekend related I will have to mute it, as I have done so in the past. It is only fair to those others I've muted, and it's the theme of the community anyway, so it makes sense I guess.

I understand if its really an unreasonable topic someone wanted to post on just for publicity then yea that would be crossing some rules.

However, I can honestly say the two post (fun n dum + Fish Tank) I did intentionally post it on weekend experiences because it really was practically what we did during the weekends of the past and story telling the community what I learned from them as I recall through my memories.

If the rules are to be specific that has been done in the present time or not too long ago past then I understand. However I did read through the guideline carefully before I decided to post and its stated clearly can be what was , what is, and what are that relates with weekends. I don't think I am crossing any lines nor am I falsely claiming its was done on weekends.

I believe a weekend experience doesn't always need to be going outdoors adventure time, but it can also be something local and casual like fixing up some much needed stuff at home and get to realize some thoughtful insight which was experienced. :)

I know there must have been so many times the wrong posts were put up and your being fair and thats great!! It should be~ and I actually support that for enrichment and focus on the community essence.

If there is anything that you think I am not getting correctly I am willing to be open minded and be more flexible to provide a more suitable post next time. :)

Thanks~

Just to be very clear:

The weekend community is about anything that happens on a weekend (Saturday and Sunday). There is no flexibility and no room for interpretation - It's my community so I make the judgement. If A post does not refer to the weekend it could be perceived (by me) that it didn't happen on the weekend and there is no discussion entered into...because it's my community. If a post is strongly weekend focused, and it's referred to, or abundantly clear in the post, then no worries.

People have the choice to post in my community or not, and I'm not at all worried if no one does because I started it for a place to put my own weekend stuff. But, if a person wants to post here then they must comply.

It's no different to any other community that has rules. In fact, it's no different to anything, ever, that has rules. If they are not complied with, then action is taken.

I think that covers it.

Man you spend a lot of your great energy on a @$@^# person. I also fell for these "communities" until I learned whos the @$#^$ admin and decided to take my traffic elsewhere. Community is all about the people and no rules can force an authentic vibe.

Wow man your work looks like empire of Aquaman. The aquarium you made is expectalullar. The two fishes ofcourse are kissing each other..lol.

Thank for sharing man

Thanks for your comment~ Empire of Aquaman!! I like that. :)

Those are nice :) And yes, if you enjoy it, then you decorated it properly :) Did you actually build the tank???

!LUV

Did I build the tank??? No~ I am not at that level of legendary mastery. If I did, it probably blew up already. :)

Its pretty amazing when we do what we enjoy the results just come out better. But to be honest in my case I tried to save and use what I already had.... because I bought too much there was more buildings than the fish themselves. Lolz

Thanks man!!

Nothing wrong with using what you have :) ... At least they have a nice home 🙌

Amen~ :) and home is all living breathing things can make great use of.

the fish tank has a castle in it! lol looks amazing, my younger brother also has a fish tank, which he works every day to change water and something else for them, feels like taking care of children haha

哈哈哈~
Yes it does need a lot of care in the beginning but as you make it routine it gets easier. You can tell your younger brother just wait till he has children. 100x the effort in both his time and his money. :)

he has a five years old son lol earlier to have child than me 😄

Wow~ he has child and he take care the fish? He is Boss Level. :)

🤣🤣

I love that castle-themed aquarium, it makes me remember my aquarium that is collecting dust in front of our television. I might as well going to reactivate it.

Yes, might as well my friend. Because I know very well what happens to un-used aquarium props that just stay frozen in time.... it just only gathers dust, nothing more. And the even more interesting thing is that I tend to say I will clean that up~ and 6 months passes by. Hahahahahahahahha!! You can do it!!!!

Same here, I always think of cleaning it but until now I can't find time to do it. Hahahaha!

I am with you man!~
And another funny part if this is that once you start.... then its hard to stop. You keep going all night~ hahahaha.

Cleaning stuff has its own magical powers where every time you say OK gonna clean my room at 3pm... then magically at 2:30 you get a phone call asking "bro lets hang out!~"
All the plans go straight out the window that day. ;)

Yeah! Hahaha! Right! Plans are derailed most of the time and then you have to re-schedule it for the next day, but then weeks have passed and it is still not done.

There you go~

Plans derailed, hang out with buddies, need to eat dinner, need to post on Hive, and when finally I remembered I have to clean the aquarium stuff... its late. Time for bed~

The circle of life~~ :)

Can anyone explain to me what these two are doing?

Looks like they're giving each other some gang signs. 'You go left, I go side ways'.. 😂🤣

It's some madddd creativity you got up your sleeves. I'm too lazy to try even if I know the entire process.

😂😆😂 Yea~ I though so too. LOLZ.

Thanks for the comment~ It is a bit of work but the secret to it really is once you get the ball rollin.... it keeps you going.
Its that mental first step in just getting my ass off and type a topic is all it takes... the rest your in flow mode. hehehehe.
