This year our echinacea is growing well in our garden and forming a large tuft. Besides being a very beautiful sight, I collected and dried leaves and flowers from the herb that we will use for tea, but I also managed to make a healing salve with the precious herb.
The ointment has a soothing, regenerating and antibacterial effect. It is useful for skin burns, wounds, insect bites. It is used on chapped and irritated skin and is a great balm for chapped lips.
Ingredients for the preparation of Еchinacea ointment are the following:
- 100 g of Echinacea oil
- 14 g of beeswax
- a few drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
First I prepared the oil:
I collected leaves and flowers and put them to dry in a dry and ventilated room.
After they dried, I crushed the herb and put it in a glass jar.
I poured the Echinacea with olive oil so that it was completely covered. I let the jar sit for about 30 days.
Once the oil was ready, I strained it.
I measured 100 g of the oil and put it in a fireproof container. I added the wax to it.
I put the container in a larger pot filled with water and put them on the stove on a slow fire until the wax melted.
I let it cool down a bit and while it was still warm I poured it into glass jars.
The ointment is now ready to use and with proper storage (in a cool place, out of sunlight), it can last up to 1 year.
