I have been thinking about this for a long time. So far I have grown many types of vegetables in pots in my home garden and last year only, for the first time, I have successfully grown carrots and radishes in pots very well.
Now I have an idea of growing potatoes, on this idea of mine my wife said that potatoes are anyway very cheap in winters, so try growing something else and I replied to her that growing vegetables at home was never about saving money, it is a medium of Meditation and Yogah for me which helps me to stay positive, optimistic, and physically and spiritually firm.
And this time fortunately the potatoes bought last week sprouted on their own while kept in the poly bag. When I saw them, I said that someone was very enthusiastic this time and that I would have to help them now. :D
Because at that time I did not have any big pot vacant which was suitable for growing potatoes, but seeing these small innocent sprouts, I could not wait, so I cut and separated some sprouted potatoes according to germination.
Now it was time to find a pot for them, which I found after some searching. This 12-14 inches pot is not the perfect size for growing potatoes but can be used for some plants.
So here I have filled it with soil mix up to about 4 inches.
Then I placed the potato sprouts facing upwards on the soil, put two more inches of soil mix on top of them, poured some water on them and kept them in the garden in a slightly shady place.
By the way, this pot has been left more than half empty because potatoes do not grow very deep in the soil but near the top surface of the soil. And like tomatoes, its plant also sprouts roots from the stem, so after these plants grow, I will fill the remaining soil in it.✌️
And in just one day, I started seeing some sprouts peeking out of the soil. Although initially, I thought that the same sprouts probably started appearing a little higher due to the soil settling down after pouring water.
But then by the evening of the same day, these sprouts grew further and became clearly visible above the soil.
And then in 2 more days almost all the sprouts broke through the soil and came out, and now their growth was also clearly visible.
These moments astound me every time, after which I feel a wave of positive energy within.
Why? Because, forget about plants and imagine you do any job with complete honesty and hard work and wait patiently for that thing to happen and it may take a little more or less time but it happens exactly as you wanted. :) Now tell me? How are you feeling in your imagination?
Isn't this a magical feeling, something like winning in life? 🍀😊
It is this magical feeling that always inspires and encourages me towards gardening!
