The Beginning's, Of My Compost Toliet Build

I have been meaning to build a compost toilet for a while now. Seems I needed to be doing more physical work and practice some problem solving skills , before I could start. Because after a full week of Olive harvesting, I was ready to do it.

With today being my day off, I expected to wake up tired. But instead I woke early and went into town with my girls, to get some supplies. Then when we returned home, we had a quick lunch and then I got to work. I planned on using materials that I already had or that were on the land. Mainly because I don't have any money to buy any and plus its better to use what you have already.

Luckily, there were already some pallets on the land. I took five of them, which I put in my wheelbarrow and brought down to the lower terrace, which is where most of the trees are. I wanted to use the trees to my advantage, in helping me to build a strong and solid toilet. I basically made a box with 4 pallets and placed the last one on top of them.

I also found some wooden posts, which I placed inside the corners of the pallets and hammered them into the ground, to help stabilise and strengthen the toliet. I don't have a drill, so I used rope to tie the pallets all together. Then I used canar to fill in the gaps around each one.

I had a some plywood which I used to cover one half of the top. Then I managed to find some off cuts of wood to cover more of it. I already had a purple toliet seat, which I put in place on the corner that was left uncovered and used screws to hold it in place.

When I started out, I didn't take any photos. I just didn't think to. I was too focused on the project at hand. I'm still not finished. I want to add more pallets on top, which can fit over the posts that are already in place, then I'll add a roof. Tomorrow I'll be doing a bit more, with whatever materials I can source. (And in case you are wondering, yes there is a tree growing out of it.)

Looks like a fun project. This year when I was at the festival was the first time I saw composting toilets and they’re so much better than those chemical toilets that I saw in the past. These smell much less!

Thabks you @fantagira, It is fun.
Yeah they are better for sure.xx

Here's a question - how many toilets have you built in your life? He he.

I see gum trees!!!!

Quite a few, but this is the first one I made by myself, although my girls did help me find wood.
Yes there are gum trees, running along, on one side of the land I am on. Xxxx

Welp it's great, go you x
