✦ We are back to the usual program of cute and spontaneous crafts with random but justified themes. Enjoy! ✦
Every so often I keep getting messages from my neighbors asking if I can help them with something their kids need for school (the last time was a dress that pretended to be made from recycled material: Spoiler, it turned out "so pretty" that we failed miserably xD because the girl who ordered it from me turns out she was going to a contest AND DID NOT SPECIFY that it seriously had to look like recycled material) 😂 👍
✦ My favorite time to craft is early in the morning, when everything is well lit but cool outside ✦
And it's something very nice that I try to say "yes" to because it's very nice to work on something different but simple, something to relax the hands and the mind that's not too cumbersome ヽ (o ^ - ^ o) ノ
✦ My neighbor gave me some of the materials, although it was a slow process because she kept forgetting to bring me the paper, and yet she kept asking me on my cell phone how I was doing with the piece hahaha, it's not the first time this has happened to me, people who don't bring me the complete list of materials but still ask if I have finished the project ✦
The story of this project is that a neighbor needed a steam test tube figure, to place next to her young son during his final paper defense. She gave me a reference via WhatsApp similar to this.
✦ The steam pattern on top of the bottle and the bottle pattern I separated, I did not transfer the whole pattern to the cardboard box, I did it separately ✦
To start this figure the first thing I did was to make a pattern on school bond paper with the specific height that I was given, 1 meter high The guide image I was given was a cartoon and the bottle had floating eyes inside (very funny, but it really looked more like a design for Halloween than a science drawing).
✦ I recommend cutting the cardboard with a cutter so that the edges are clean and very straight ✦
The second thing I did was to transfer the pattern to the cardboard but replicating the body of the bottle 2 times, one 1.5 cm less than the other, to make it look less flat with **a simple but nice overlapping effect.
✦ For the body of the bottle I used two different shades of purple, leaving the less saturated one as a background ✦
Next, line each piece of cardboard with crepe paper and tissue paper; then immediately add a cardboard reinforcement in the center of the body of the bottle, before attaching the "steam" part to the mouth of the bottle with more rectangles of the same cardboard to give it firmness and stability.
✦ For the steam part I had to put two layers of paper, because it looked a bit transparent ✦
At this stage the figurine looked very similar to what I was told (although I did change the color, a little bit in dimensions, I also added a lower gloss to the bottle to make it look prettier, after all it was supposed to be something intended for a tender and childish environment), but to my taste it was too serious, nothing funny...
✦ To make these pompoms, you just have to cut out many squares of paper, then prick one by one in the center and flatten the paper out gently, you will get a kind of spikes and then you must paste many of these spikes on small circles of cardboard ✦
With the remaining paper, I made 9 paper pom-poms to place in the "steam" to simulate "sparkles", I also made some purple mini pom-poms to add more contrast.
✦ Very resistant! ✦
You must allow the figure to lie flat for at least 30 minutes before lifting it. To make the figurine "stand alone", a piece of cardboard glued to its back with hot silicone and two small rectangles of reinforcement between this "fin" and the body of the bottle is all that is needed.
✦ I think it looks pretty nice, what do you think? ✦
I don't remember when was the last time I made one of these decorative figures, but I quite enjoyed it, I had never made a lab tube like this and it's one more item to add to the list of "things I learned to make thanks to emergency crafts requests" ✌ 💜
✦ I think the teachers did a great job with the background decoration ✦
