Crafting Home: A Story of Love and Labor

in #hive-1305608 months ago

Hello there, fellow Hivers. For this blog, let me share with you one of my hobbies that I am proud to share with you all.

As you all know, I grew up in the province with hardworking parents. Even as a child, I accompanied my father in doing heavy tasks, such as collecting firewood from the forest, tending crops in the fields, cutting down trees or bamboo to make chairs, or crafting resting areas under the shade of trees.

My father is a skilled craftsman; he enjoys turning the impossible into reality. Nearly all of our bamboo chairs were crafted by him. Even though he wasn't able to study, not even in elementary school, it didn't hinder him from facing life's challenges.

Despite my father's lack of formal education, I would never notice any deficiencies because he knows how to read and write. From a young age, he consistently emphasized the importance of studying diligently, as he didn't want us to end up like him, who never had the opportunity to study. He said that seeing us finish our education would be a great source of pride for him because we had fulfilled one of his life dreams.

Here are some of my father's works

That's why he became my idol in almost everything. Whenever I saw him working on something or hammering away outside our house, I would really watch him. This may be why one of my pastimes also became crafting or carpentry, as it contributed to improving our home, or maybe it's also to save money, as I know how to do or fix things that need fixing.

Upon learning that my partner was pregnant, I was really excited. So, when I had the opportunity, I bought the materials I needed for the idea I had in mind. When my partner saw the items I bought, she inquired about their purpose. I replied that instead of buying a crib for our incoming child, I would personally make one to save money. This would allow us to allocate the funds we would have spent on a crib to more essential matters. My spouse was pleased with my response and supported me in carrying out my plan.

It took me several days to complete the baby crib because I had many other tasks to attend to, especially with my job.

So when I finally finished it, I was overjoyed to see the outcome of my hard work.

When I saw the happy face of my spouse, I knew she was satisfied with the outcome of my work. Since there were still materials left from the crib I made, I also decided to make her a mini bookshelf.

My partner loves reading and collecting books, so it was no surprise to find her books confined to a mere cardboard box at home. Upon hearing her complain about mice eating her books made me feel sorry for her, so I told her I would make her own mini bookshelf. Since there was still daylight when I finished making the crib, I decided to proceed with making her book rack that same day.

Of course, when my partner heard that, her smile reached ear to ear. So, after we finished cleaning up the mess from making the crib, I also started making my partner's mini bookshelf.

Due to the modest size of the bookshelf I was making, it only took me a few minutes to put it together. So when I finished, I could clearly see the excitement on my spouse's face, and she quickly cleaned up the mess to start arranging her books on the new bookshelf I had made. As she tidied up and placed all the books on the new shelf, I could see how delighted she was with everything I had done.

Finished Products
I know that my work may not be the best, especially since I don't have many tools, but seeing my wife's happy and satisfied expression means a lot to me. All the sweat and fatigue I invested in making the crib and bookshelf vanished because I knew deep down that I had someone who was overjoyed and supportive of what I wanted to do.

And with that, my blog for the day comes to an end.

You should have a little more confidence in yourself. What does it matter if the final result isn't the most beautiful? What's important is that it is useful, and I'm sure it is. Greetings.

Deberías tener un poco más de confianza en ti mismo. ¿Qué importa si el resultado final no es el más bello? Lo importante es que sea útil, y estoy seguro de que lo es. Saludos.

Thank you @edeyglezsosa . I know there's still a lot for me to learn when it comes to this kind of activity. But I'm still grateful that even though my efforts may not be perfect, they still prove to be beneficial for us.
