For some time now I have wanted to renovate my old desk, which is my everyday work spot, and I finally got around to making it happen.
I didn't know exactly what to do in this reform, but I knew I wanted to paint over the top, to try to mask the imperfections and deterioration of the wood.
I don't know exactly which period this piece of furniture is from. It has been with me for 10 years, but it was bought in a second hand furniture store. So, I imagine that it has had some owners before me...
I also had a single goal: to refurbish this piece of furniture without spending absolutely no money buying things.
So I reused everything I had at home. My old painting materials (which are usually rescued for these crazy renovations) were already a bit deteriorated, and I didn't have the exact paint colors for the drawings, so I changed all the plans (the initial idea was to draw flowers) to use the paints I had at home.
The colors that I didn't have, like this yellow, were mixed by hand until I reached the desired shade.
The pink paint is specific for wood and was chosen just because it was the only one I already had at home for this purpose, as it had been left over from a previous project.
Since I am not an accomplished draftsman (in fact, it was the first time I had ever drawn freehand on furniture), I chose to make drawings that were not too difficult.
I did the sketches with the pencil, without previous planning, and let myself be guided by the ideas that came to me on the moment.
I also created small designs to serve as details for the drawers and I think they turned out pretty cute.
I made a tremendous mess to complete this work, which was done in two days. Also, my cats made their own mess and it reminded me why I put off these projects so much. It is a challenging task to do any home renovations with my cats and dogs around. 😝
But all the effort was well worth it, because in the end I was in love with my new desk and very proud to have completed this remodeling all by myself.
I never thought I would be able to draw and paint pictures by myself, but after this result I think I can consider not charging myself so much and give myself more opportunities to practice and improve my creations.
I posted some videos on my social networks showing the creation process, for those who want to see the details of this transformation. I will leave the links below, at the end of the post.
Now my whole work environment at home has turned pink and fluffy. And I am very happy to be able to make everything around here more inspiring, because it certainly impacts my creativity.
What do you think of this totally cost-free and trash-free renovation?
