Summer means sweet palm fruit fillers as a snack during the evening. The palm has a distinct taste, which makes any dish made from it significant. It is a lovely, lightly flavored fruit that's fresh and hydrating. Though the process of juicing the palm is quite hard the time worth it.
I usually preserve the juice for the whole year and make different snacks occasionally. Recently I made our very popular, traditional palm filler. We call it 'Taler Bora'. Tal means palm in our native Bangla.
Let me share the step-by-step process.
What do we need?
- 1 cup of Palm fruit juice
- Sugar as per taste
- 2 cups of Rice flour
- Coconut flecks
- Oil to fry
The ingredients are so simple but the fillers taste so good, I can guarantee you will be amazed.
The process.
The palm fruit juice is very thick. The texture is so nice, we make different types of cakes and deep-fried snacks with it.
Add the rice flour gradually and mix them well.
Then add sugar as per your taste. You let you know, palm juice tastes a little bitter. Many like to keep the bitterness. If you don't like it, increase the amount of sugar.
Lastly, add the coconut flecks.
I didn't add any spices though some like to add cinnamon powder or black seeds. But I like this without adding anything else. You follow your taste buds.
It's time to fry the fillers.
Deep fry them cooking them for a few minutes on low flame. Flip them over once one side is done. Don't make the butter too thick, otherwise, the filler would be raw in the middle. A runny butter is perfect.
The shapes of my fillers were not perfect but the taste was. lol
This is how it looks.
Cool to room temperature and serve. The distinct taste of the sweet fillers would amaze you.
If sugar palm is available to you, do try your hand at frying a batch this season. I can tell, you will miss the taste if you have not.
Have a good day, everyone.
