We should appreciate every profession of a person. Whether it's a white-collar job or blue-collar job; They should not be discouraged just because of the education they achieve. What's more important are the things they contribute to society. We don't have food to eat if not because of the farmers and the fishermen. Even the laborers, we should be thankful for them because there will be no construction if all of us are sitting in the office and doing paperwork. No one should be treated as low or being underestimated.
Just like a fisherman who provides the citizens with fish to eat. Now, what kind of life are they doing? Yes, we are all aware that fishermen go to the sea and do fishing. They are riding on a boat but do not totally understand what it is about it. This is not a documentary post but I want to share some insights about the life of a fisherman.
Some fishermen became one in their adult days while some became one because their father is one. I know someone who became a good fisherman in his 20s. He became the fish provider to the citizens of our small village. It doesn't mean he provides all the fish but he is leading all the fishermen. If you'd think he's just a lucky guy or fate favors him, well, you don't know the whole story behind this fisherman yet. Fishing doesn't necessarily mean being lucky all the time. Hard work and dedication are the keys to most of everything in this world.
Edwin is his name, of course, I've known him for a long time since he's from here. He went to the sea in the afternoon by himself. Bringing fishing materials like a fishing hook, fishing net but a small one and bulbs to place under the sea. I have no idea what kind of fishing he's been doing but according to them it's called "manuga" (bisaya word) or "to light up providing light."
When that night is not going well. He will go back to the shore but not go to his home. There's a waiting shed or a cottage next to the shore for fishermen. They purposely built it because it's like a killing-time place or waiting place for the citizens who are buying fish. But for fishermen, this cottage is a place for them to take a nap and will go back to the sea for just an hour.
That's what Edwin does most of the time. He is usually seen by the citizens who woke up early in the morning in the sea. But they didn't know that Edwin stayed the whole night at sea fishing. This is the reason why he caught fish always because he took time in fishing so much. It is as if he's working for more than 12 hours. Though he doesn't have a boss, what obliges him to stay for long at the sea floating and alone because he's determined to catch fish to sell.
I don't really understand much about him but perhaps, fishing is the kind of profession he desires. We all have choices about what kind of profession we want to have. It's not just about the amount of concern but the satisfaction of what you've been doing. The kind of life you are having anyway depends on you.
