Fresh Paint for "EL Torre" and a stop off at the local butchers in Mexico.

It was on the list of things to do only since last night - 'Paint the tower room' - but why procrastinate? I went out in the morning down the road to buy paint for the first time in Mexico.

Even at 9am some days the sun is too hot for me and its a 15min walk down to the builders yard. I made it back without getting too hot and whilst getting some veggys on the way, back with the paint and went up to the tower to start.

First thing though, how the fuck do I get the lid off?! There must be a tool for it or a trick because I had to use a hammer as a crow bar on it!

I managed to get it open, somehow! But my finger tips were caning and the hammer was wondering what the fuck was going on.
Are these American style paint pots?!

I soon had a flashback

as soon as I started to stir the "paint" of being back in The Gambia, painting walls. This wasn't paint, it was white wash

White wash is like white liquid that is a the very most half the thickness of paint. After a few slaps on the wall I soon realised that I was wasting my time and then had to go back to the shop and get the more expensive one. In the Gambia it was made from crushed sea shells and mixed with water, here it seemed a bit more painty but still not enough to cover a wall properly.

Out in the sun again to get some proper paint! This time it was hotter, but manageable still. I completely forgot to ask what the trick is to open the paint tubs but at least I remembered to get a tray for the roller.

2nd trip to get paint

I remembered that I needed to get bones for the dogs and stopped at the butchers.

Yes, the meat is in a chest freezer, and no it is not turned on!

I forget how it started but the woman said almost instantly that there is no virus and we had a long chat. After our chat though I said that she must not be vaccinated as she is aware that its all not true, but actually she was, and I couldn't understand the sheepy language she used to say why. It was not coercion for her job though.

Nice people around this part and I haven't yet seen any other whiteys. There's no cash point here yet which also means there are no expats hahaah..

Mexicans love to see a white man (who they always presume to be American) working.

Same story, I got back, and was fearing the opening of the paint. Tried the same technique as last time but then it wasn't working so I went for the "hit it with a hammer" move.

I got splashed to but not so bad as I thought, but anyway this paint would probably wash of in a light rain so I wasn't fussed. It was much more thicker and apparently is washable/wipeable paint, and I soon noticed it was pure white when the cheapy white wash was eggshell white. I didn't have enough to do two coats of paint with the proper paint, so I had to mix for the first coat, the cheapy one with some of the better one to make it go further.

Cutting in

Grimey!

Even the white wash paint was not pure white, but we used the better paint as the last layer.

Eventually it got better though and that nasty pink was getting covered

Roller time!

Fresh White

This is how it was looking..

..and it was getting worked on big time!

At the end it was well worth it, and didn't take too long

Great job! Must be kiddy proof paint LOL🤣🤣😝

hahhaah luckily yes!

Oh yes, all paint is not created equal it seems. Your companera de la pintura is living on the edge, wearing all black whilst painting with white paint! 🤣

i sent an email, so hopefully it went to the right place.
