Greetings everyone
I am very happy to create my first post here in this community. I recovered it recently. I have been sharing my post in the DIYhub community, but when I went through a pin post by hive motors, I discovered this community fit with my post.
I am joining this community today, and I promise to follow the rules and never abuse the hive in any way.
Before I proceed, i will love to know how you all are doing. I hope you all are doing well.
I am a car upholstery expert, and I deal with the decorations of all the interiors of cars, like the door carpet, car roof, hand rest, dashboard, sewing of the car seat, and others.
Today I am sharing with you guys a simple process on how to replace the leather on a hand rest if needed. I will be using the one I got from my customer to illustrate my process with photos for more understanding, and I know it is very important to many car owners.
Here is the finished work.
Here was it before
If you look at it, you will discover that the old leather has expired, which is why the owner chose to change it.
Things needed
- star screwdriver
- scissors
- gum
- new leather
- sewing machine, etc.
To begin, I first loosen the back cover to be left with only a part cover with leather. This is done for easy coverings of new leather.
I have just loose the cover from the hand rest
After loosing it out, I then use a measurement tape to measure the distance of the old leather of the hand rest and then pen it down.
I then transfer the measurements to the new leather.
And with the help of scissors, I cut it out, leaving a mark on the new leather.
To get the shape of the hand rest, I place the new-cut leather on top of the hand rest and then shape it out to get a sewing pattern.
After getting the pattern, with the help of the sewing machine, I then join them together.
Here is the sewing process.
I bend the side to get double sewing, as it was before.
Done sewing.
To cover it, I then apply gum to the new sewing leather.
I also apply gum to the hand rest too, so both can gum well. Note that the gum is only applied to the edges, not the sides, so that it will look smooth.
Done applying gum to both of them.
I finally gummed them together at the angles where I apply the gum.
Here is the front view of it. I hope it is nice.
To get it done, I finally tightened the cover of the hand rest with the help of a screwdriver.
Finally, the hand rest is ready.
Following the steps, you can see that it is very simple to get it done.
I hope this is helpful to you all. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments section, and don't forget to support my skills. Thanks everyone
