It all happened in the blink of an eye. Cinnamon was mentioned, and that solved all the dilemmas of how to try to make something out of a normal biscuit that would look (a bit) like mushrooms. The dilemma is solved, but the result at the end... you will judge for yourself whether the goal has been achieved or not.
But let's start from the beginning. If you are reading a post for the first time from this Fungi Friday community, where every Friday people who love mushrooms have a little fun, you can ask yourself what is all this? What have baking cookies got to do with mushrooms today?
Well, simply, Mrs Head of the Mushroom Family decided to make our job easier (or harder) this week. It was great for me because I haven't seen real mushrooms for a long time anyway. Finally, I can participate in the Fungi Friday initiative again, as this week's theme is:
Fungi not fungi
We are encouraged to find something that is not a mushroom but it looks like that. How cool!! Thank you @ewkaw for this theme 🙌
For the rules, please check out the THIS post, but anyway, I will write them down if you just want to stay and watch eat some cookies with me.
-when Friday comes (UTC time) post your own, original photo/drawing/art/food/anything-at-all of any type of fungi (yes, I will check and report stolen images or text!)
-add #FungiFriday tag (it doesn't have to be your first tag)
-Include "My contribution to #FungiFriday by @ewkaw" anywhere in your post.
But, now it is indeed enough of this whole introduction. Can we start we the main point of the post?
The sweet, tasty, yummy... cookies??
Yes, yes, yes, here they come!
First of all, you have to know that I don't do magic in the kitchen. I used to bake more when our numerous family of three of us consumed more sweets. However, my son has strange ideas that it is not good for him and he could live on eggs, hummus and garlic sauce. I decided to have some sugar free time. Poor husband has to adapt, not so voluntarily though. No cakes, cookies and all in our home!
Until last evening :)
I have some recipes from my mom, and decided to go with the easiest one.
Ingredients of my mom's cookie recipe:
300 grams of butter (I had just 250 grams of butter at home, so I also used less sugar and flour)
2 eggs
200 grams of sugar
600 grams of flour
half a bag of baking powder
vanilla sugar
little salt
little milk to be easier to blend together.
Knead with your hand in a bowl and prepare the place to roll out the dough with a rolling pin to the thickness of a finger.
Prepare the mould. Well, I was in a dilemma, because I only had a star, a flower and a heart. However, I found an interesting idea of how to get a mushroom-like shape. Something that looks like champignons, I saw it here but please do not open it, as then you will see how not nice are my ones! 😁
It is very easy, as you need just a glass or something round shaped as a mould. In the middle leave a trace of cocoa powder mixed with cinnamon with a small cup or the tip of a plastic glass. First, dip that small glass in cocoa-cinnamon powder and make the mark in the middle. If you press hard, it is not good because it will break to the bottom and the shape will fall apart when you want to lift it and put it on the baking tray.
Making the brown mark with a small cup or with the next of a plastic bottle:
The amount of dough was enough for three baking trays. When I finished the moulding of the first two, I put them together in the oven. Later, the third one also went to get the baking session :))
Isn't it so exciting waiting for the cookies to be done while they are in the oven? To use your time wisely, you can already start to wash all the dishes you used. That way you can enjoy the space in your kitchen when the cookies are done. With all the preparation, moulding, baking, washing the dishes... midnight came!! I started with this activity at 10 p.m. !!! Late evening sweets :D
The cookies were ready to take out of the oven. Hurray!! Not all looked like mushrooms, there were stars, flowers and hearts too. Even those that had to be champignons didn't really look like mushrooms. But, hey, magic fingers could practice it more times, so better ones would come on another occasion. The only bad thing was that they tasted very well... Oh my, what happened with my "no sugar please" attitude?!? 😂
That attitude disappeared in no time. As same as the cookies, I don't know what happened but they kept disappearing. Slowly, I noticed less and less of them. From plenty of them...
...there were less...
...and less... just the hearts were left...for some short time... and a message of love I found later?
And that's it.
Honestly, it is a sad story how it finished.
Cookies not cookies in our memory should be the title of my post... This was the last bite of them!
...then I found that love letter...
Love you too and Happy FungiFriday for all the people here around.
Your Cookie Monster!
