We had three apple trees, two of which produced mostly (+95%) rotten apples. The trees had some disease. It was an awful lot of trouble to get rid of the apples every late July to late August.
I took down the two trees today.
I first cut as many of those smaller branches as I could.
The crusher is an efficient way to get rid them.
This is what comes out of it.
Into the bag the chips go.
My tools. That's an electric chainsaw. Cost me only €70. Adequate for cutting something every now and then but it feels a bit flimsy and I would definitely buy a heavier and gas powered one for serious and recurring work.
I cut the trunks into short pieces easy to take to the waste station. We have enough firewood already.
This tree seemed to be dying. It wasn't growing in a good spot. We'll plant something else in its place.
I was finished for the day after clearing that area of the logs and the remaining branches. My muscles are aching lightly. Cutting branches and felling trees is surprisingly hard work even if one operates only a light chainsaw such as mine. Respect to the loggers of the world!
Tomorrow, I'll start trimming the hedges. That's a lot of work, too, but there will be less heavy lifting.
