Never Let Good Waste Go To Waste

These...are improvised protectors for the fingers of people who pull bowstrings all too often.
Quite specific, I know. But funny enough, I might be needing one tomorrow.

I did not expect to be making any this evening. The material called for them itself. I am happy I was able to reuse it and give some life to some new stuff.

Some of that kitchen roll of nylon became unusable when I accidentally tore it at an odd angle. I was wrapping a painting that @silver.art wanted to send by couriers...who obviously can't pack stuff themselves or prefer not to pack stuff outside of their comfort zone.

Anyway, I had this roll of nylon that would go to waste. And because I wanted the paper roll beneath, I was trying to peel the leftovers back. And then they peeled in sheets of compressed matter that would retain some flexibility but become sturdier than what you would have expected of it.

It was probably a sudden insight for I had no idea beforehand as to what should we do with some scrap compressed nylon that came off in sheets.

I don't know how I reached that idea but...I did and I went all in, making as many as possible in the short time before falling asleep on the keyboard as opposed to going home.

Normally made of leather, and of similar design. You put your middle finger in the hole and you have the front part cover the tips of the three fingers that you normally pull the bowstring with. They become pretty rough pretty fast otherwise.

Well, I hope it works. I plan on testing it tomorrow.

Meanwhile...

Peace!

Fantastic idea! That's a win on all levels. I hope it works for you when you get to use it!

It worked...for about twenty or so arrows before it curled up pretty bad. But it's still usable. And it's still better to pull with it than without it. I found some old leather, though. I think I shall be making the normal kind ;)

I love seeing things not get wasted. Good job!

That's a brilliant use for something that would probably would have just ended up in the bin if it had been me. The second I saw the shape I knew it was for archery, I remember the soft leather ones I used, without them you regret it very fast.

I'm glad that it worked even if only for a while, maybe good to have as a spare stuck away somewhere.

Have a good week.

Cheers
Andy

to that :) Cool to know you've practiced, too. It's awesome.

If I could right now, I would by a recurve bow! There's a guy who regularly takes his bow down to the field behind the house and practices shooting at what looks like a thick stack of cardboard targets. I always get a bit jealous...oh gosh is there such a thing as bow envy? If there is, I have that.

🤣

For a moment there I thought it was me. But I'm not doing it that regularly. Not regularly at all...yet.

Lol that would have been funny if it were you.

I kinda swear at him in admiration-annoyance. I've been putting off buying a bow for more than 10 years. Maybe it's time I just take the plunge.

Perhaps this is the comment that makes you do go target practice more regularly 😉 It's certainly not time wasted if you're sharpening up a skill!
